In which my kid takes a ride on a tractor. And lives to tell about it.July 7th, 2008 @ 7:01 am
While spending 30 hours in our car over the last 5 days wasn’t that much fun, it was nice to spend 48 straight hours with my family over the weekend of the Forth of July!
Things are just different in Utah. Not bad, not (especially) good…just different. I like to say that my life in Seattle is 100% opposite then life in Utah.
For starters, Babboo would never (ever!) get the chance to ride around in a wheelbarrow in Seattle. But in Utah it happend within an hour of our arrival. And he loved it.
And be assured he would never (ever!) be carried around on a tractor.
(Good thing there isn’t picture of The King and I freaking out while this was happening. We have a strict “no Babboo on a 4-wheeler” rule, but my dad seemed to think that a tractor ride was okay? Go figure.)
In Utah, The King is revered by all of his loyal subjects (read: my mom). They stand over him and shade him from the evil sun.
This never happens to The King in Seattle. As God as my witness, I promise you this never happens.
In Utah the yards are huge and are able to accommodate kiddy pools.

In Seattle we don’t even have a yard (yet), let alone a grassy knoll for a pool.
At my sister’s house in Utah there is junk food and soda a plenty.

Holy crap, I haven’t seen a donut in months here in Seattle. Maybe even longer.
Utah is full of wheelbarrows on fire. On fire! That is pure excitement for a two year old.
We don’t see many wheelbarrows engulfed in flames in Seattle. (And by ” we don’t see many” I mean “we never see them”.)
I also don’t see a lot of sitting in the sun, in the yard, feet up, kid playing time in Seattle. Sure as heck not enough of it. Vacation time is good.
That’s for sure.

And the biggest difference between my life in Seattle and life in Utah:
Family, you gotta love ‘em.

After a brief conversation with my cousin (and his bride) this weekend, I’m pretty sure he found my super secret blog.
So um, let’s all say “hola” to my cousin.
(And let’s be extra nice to him. I don’t want him to give the url to my grandma.)

If Utah has donuts like that, then it’s my kind of state.
SO happy to see YOU so happy! Yay 4th of July with your family!!!

I love how the grass is mostly dead in all of your pictures. Welcome to the desert!
So I was thinking… you and Hannah Montana were in Utah at the same time. Dude!

Awe. I loved this post. You described it all very well.
And ack! I hate it when I am found out by people I know or am related to and my blog is not an anonymous one!
Hi, cousin! DO NOT TELL GRANDMA!

Sounds like you guys had a great time! Getting away is just nice at times. Even if it is just for a few days.
So I have to ask… how was the car ride?

Come to my neck of the woods, Babboo can ride with the kids in a wagon on the back of our “tractor” and run around and roast marshmallows. You don’t have to drive 15 hours to get out of the city!

Isabel, have you been in the big city too long? Because your “tractor” looks an awful lot like a riding lawn mower. I can’t see that thing plowing a field :).

Hooray for vacations! I’m glad you survived the car trip. I was thinking ’bout cha & hoping it went well.
And Britt’s right. I heard ALL about Hannah Montana’s sweet concert from a kid in primary on Sunday. The ONE BOY in my class went to it & all the girls were jealous. Little May keeps telling me she wants to Netflix Hannah Montana, but I’m holding out. It’s no HSM.
PS - She took her HSM Gabriella doll to preschool show & tell today.

It sounds like you guys had an awesome vacation (especially Babboo) here in our neck of the woods. When I told Ash (while at the Provo parade) that you guys were in town and probably at the parade he wanted to know why I didn’t tell him sooner and when are we all going to get together. You’ll have to let us know when your in town next.

Too funny - from the wheel barrow to the riding lawn mower ride it all looked completely ‘normal’ to me. (All kiddos get rides on the lawn mowers by the time they are about 6 months….)
I think Utah is much like the Midwest… just surrounded by mountains in the distance instead of, well… corn and uh… corn.
Welcome Home!

Sounds like a great - and very different - trip!
That kiddie pool is like the deluxe, luxury version! Nothing like the plain, thin plastic version I had growing up.

(Hi Cuz! Try and keep the super-secret blog a bit under wraps, mmmmmkay?)
I’m glad UT treated you well, and I’m glad that Babboo got to ride in a wheelbarrow–some of my best memories are riding in wheelbarrows. :o)

I love riding in wheelbarrows but alas, am too big now. I did give Maddy a ride in one this weekend. My dad taught her how to drive his lawn mower so now she mows when we go to his house. I think there might be an ulterior motive there.

Looks like an absolutely fabulous vacation! I’ve never seen a wheelbarrow on fire, either, but I may suggest it to Tim — that looks right up his alley.
