In which I use bullet points and pictures to tell you how The Big Move went
June 2nd, 2008 @ 7:01 am

Things I learned during this weekend’s move into the new house:

  • Having to climb up two flights of stairs in your new house when you’re used to having an elevator at your apartment is hard work. My calves are killing me today.
  • I own a lot of clothes.
  • And shoes.
  • Towels warmers are a gift from God.
  • I need to make a trip to IKEA and buy one millions things for the new house. (You know, things like hand towels and rugs and mirrors and bar stools and TP dispensers. Oh my.)
  • We need food in our fridge. Must go grocery shopping so that we don’t have to eat any more of Babboo’s frozen waffles.
  • Having good friends bring us dinner on Saturday night was a blessing in disguise as not much of our perishable food items made the move.  Thanks to our friends we had enough food for the entire weekend.
  • The new house is awesome.

kitchen.jpg

  • The new kitchen isn’t splotchy, my camera lens is just dirty.  (At least I hope the kitchen doesn’t really look like this.)
  • A nice new bedroom the size of our old apartment is double awesome.

master bedroom - font.JPG

  • Having said new awesome bedroom filled with our mattress and piles of all my clothes isn’t so awesome. In fact it’s double-not-awesome. (Closet system needs to be installed asap.)

  • I am super duper paranoid about Babboo falling down the different flights of stairs. Unfortunately he does not share my fear and wants to play precariously close to them at all times.

  • Going from a 4 block commute where I just walked to a 45 minute commute (which consisted of walking, taking a bus, taking a boat and then walking some more) sucks a@@.  Totally.  Even more then I thought it would.
  • Waking up in my new house with The King and Babboo all snuggled with me in bed totally rocks.  Totally.

So tell me, did you learn anything this weekend?

———————-

Holy crap, did you read that Carly saw the Old 97’s in concert last night in Tulsa?  And did you see that her husband designed the concert poster and that I was the inspiration?!!!  Dude, that totally ME on the poster for the freakin’ Old 97’s!!  What’s even cooler is that the band signed one of the poster for me (ME!) and Carly will be sending it my way shortly.  It will then be framed and hung in the new house for all the world to see.  For shizzle, this is the coolest thing I’ve ever been a part of.

Thanks, Carly, for putting this together for me.

Thank you for pictures. But I want more. I always want more. Is it wonderful living in the new home? What color did you paint my room? I mean the guest room.

Congratulation! Your kitchen is really cool, but my favorite is the stairs. Did your husband design those?

Congrats on the move — the house looks GREAT!

I learned that buying an air mattress before going camping is the best way to spend $35 E-V-E-R.

I think you need to meet your new short-to-medium term best friend, the pressure mounted gate.

We have this one, and while it won’t withstand serious toddler determination — Noah pulled it over on himself once — it is a nice discouragement and buys you time to actively intervene if necessary. http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=186761&parentCategoryId=85183&categoryId=85217&PIPELINE_SESSION_ID=4ad885677f00000155312ff7493ee786

Officially it isn’t “safe enough” for stairs. But like your stairs, ours aren’t suitable for a hardware mounted option. We actually use it in Noah’s doorway, but if you’re upstairs organizing clothes in your fab new closets, you could certainly use it to help keep Babboo safer.

My housewarming gift to you shall be a helmet for Babboo to wear when he’s playing near the stairs. I may as well get myself one while I’m at it, because I’ve bumped my head twice today.

Also, I really need to know what is wrong with eating frozen waffles? I eat them for breakfast AND even dessert sometimes.

OH - did the CD come?

Your house looks so amazing, I’m so happy you’re all moved in. The King did such a great job, and I hope Babboo is okay on those stairs! Kiddie gate?

And dude, that is a LOT of clothes, haha.

I hope you have a month off to move in. I think there should be leave for such things- like when we give birth to a kid. Giving birth to a new home takes a lot of work!

I love the feeling and excitement of a ‘new’ home - and the smell! LOL. I love the smell of new construction. ;)

Funny that I posted about IKEA this weekend only my post on it wasn’t positive like yours is. You obviously love IKEA - me? Not so much. Ha.

OMGooosh the house, the isabel poster SIGNED ALL too cool! Totally amazing. What a great week u are having. yay!
I wish I was there with u while u bought everything at IKEA! I LOVE IKEA so much.
I wish I was there with u to help un-pack everything and put away in your house. I like un-packing,I hate packing up! ah!
I hear u can get those child safety rail things from IKEA for the stairs - so u have peace of mind. Boys are so adventurous. Though Babboo maybe a cautious adventurer.
Please congratulate the King for me too.
I can’t wait to see pics after u’ve unpacked and decorated the house with all your new IKEA purchases , new couch/TV etc.
    =)

We moved to a very small town 6 months ago to our own nice home. It’s take 6 months of adjusting but I have found my sweet spot. Where I can be content with what I have and just really enjoy it for what it is.

I hope you find that too.
