In which I lament over three days spent in bedMarch 6th, 2008 @ 7:01 am
Remember when Alanis Morissette had that song “Ironic” and everyone was all “hey, those things aren’t really ironic“? Yeah well, want to know what is ironic?
The fact that we canceled our home internet last week in an attempt to save a little money and you know, since we never use it, and um, why not just cancel it? And then I got super-duper sick and was stuck at home without the damn internet. There was no way to even pretend to “work from home” and get paid for it, and dude Mrs. Squirrel was having a freakin’ baby and I was not able to get online and keep updated on her progress and see pictures of her adorable new bebe.
Yeah, that’s irony. And it ain’t pretty. Or fun. (Especially since I only had 12 hours of sick time and was out for THREE DAYS!)
Thank Heavens for text messaging and Carly, who kept me in the loop, the best she could. I would not have survived without it.
Want to know what else kept me alive?
- The obsessive need to take my temperature every 20 minutes. (I topped out at 102.7 on Tuesday afternoon and was at 99.7 this morning before work.)
- The horribly smutty book I read on Tuesday called “Royal Harlot”. I was given this book. Be assured this isn’t the typical book I would read. But wowsa…talk about smut. (Not sure what I was expecting when I opened a book with the word “harlot” in the title.) Also, awesome.
- Trying to decide how high your temperature has to get before you are taken to the hospital.
- Orange juice.
- Tylenol, oh how I love thee.
What didn’t help me?
- Contact cold medicine. You suck. I hate you.
- Nyquil. What happened? You used to be such a good friend and make me feel so good. And now? Now, you suck!
- Babboo and his refusal to actually sleep at night. Yeah, that’s wasn’t so good for the healing process.
- Not having any freakin’ contact with the
outside worldthe interweb. (Oh how I missed the interweb.)
So here I am, back at work. Back online. And doing everything I can to not put my jammies back on and check my damn temperature.
Because seriously,this sucks.
So tell me, what all did I miss while I was away?

Oooo- That’s SUCKY! I’m so happy you’re back!
Nyquil? DOES NOT WORK. They changed the formula because too many people were making meth out of it. Those stupid meth fiends- ruining GOOD drugs for the rest of us!

I sure missed you!
I checked your blog like crazy and at some point, I started to wonder if you were alright; no posts, no comments on Cletus’ birth… is she still alive?
I’m glad you’re better and back on the Internet now.
And how adorable is Cletus, huh?

Oh my God, I can’t believe they changed the Nyquil formula! Meth addicts ruin EVERYTHING!!!
I’m glad your temperature is back down to a more manageable level, and I hope you feel all better very soon!

My husband also has this obsessive need to check his temperature when he feels ill. I don’t know if he needs validation or things that having a temperature will gain him some sort of sympathy…And for sure having a temperature makes him feel worse (yes, the drama of a sick husband is a joy we have all experienced, I know) and not having a temperature makes him grumpy and even more compulsive about checking it.

We totally missed you!!! Especially me. I hope you are feeling better! Dude, how high does ones temperature have to get before going to the hospital? Because yours was high!
I got really really sick a few months ago. I wasn’t able to get out of bed for 3 days as well. It was absolutely horrible. I was sure I was running a fever, and a bad one… but never checked my temperature. I’m SO glad winter is almost over!!!

YOU’RE ALIVE! If you noticed that your stats went up from readers in DC who visit your website on Firefox, Dude, it was me wondering if I should email you to make sure you were alive but then talking myself out of it because, hello, STALKING.
Phew. I’m sorry you were sick. I almost called you into the missing persons bureau! Anonymously, of course. I don’t want the authorities to know I am insane.

I’m glad you’re back. I was checking your site every, oh, 15-20 minutes (slooooow days at work) and I figured you’d caught the creepy crud that’s running rampant through the masses.
I didnt’ know Nyquil changed the formula, but now I know to just stick with shots of Peppermint Schnapps to clear the sinuses, kill the germs and make me go nighty night.

You have to get the Nyquil that is kept behind the pharmacy counter. The one on the shelf has been reformulated and sucks!

Smut is the only thing that makes illness at all tolerable.
I did wonder if you were sick, when you failed to post for a while. You’re a very consistent blogger. Unlike me, who is just a lazy blogger. Welcome back to the blogworld.
But nothing happened to me except my doctor told me I’m still pregnant (!) and somehow I got my friend to clean my carpets for me. Oh and I gave you an award over on my blog.

OMG YOU NOTICED IT TOO!!!!!!!
NYQUIL DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE!!!
My husband noticed it a couple months ago.
My daughter told me last month when she tried it.
I used it a couple weeks ago… NOTHING.
PURE CRAP.
So the other poster above said it’s been reformulated and you have to get it behind the counter??? Really? How do people find out these things? Like a schmuck I’ve been handing over my hard earned cash for a double pack and I might as well dump it down the drain.
I think there needs to be a Nyquil revolt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(have I had too much coffee this morning?)

[…] This week is the first week of the Secret Sister project and so I wanted to start off with a bang. I thought and thought and thought about what to get for this Secret Sister, who I knew absolutely nothing about. I decided that I’d get her something that I would like and hope that she’d like it too. Since I spent most of this week close to death, I was afraid I wouldn’t get my package out in time. […]
