Who knew I was so good at lying?
February 6th, 2008 @ 7:01 am

Thanks to everyone that played along to yesterdays game of Six Lies and Two Truths about Isabel. I was happily surprised at how many e-mailed guesses I received in my inbox. I hate to admit that I spent way too much time yesterday filtering through them. I’m also surprised that only one person correctly guessed the two truths.

The winner (and soon to be owner of her own personal “Isabel Rawks” CD) is SJ over at AndAllTheJonesMen. Congrats. SJ, I assure you that production of said CD will commence immediately.

I assume you guys want to know what the truths are, right? If you don’t, I’m still going to tell you. Because um, I need something to blog about today.

I was surprised at how many people thought that the first one was true. You know the one where I said my first husband was too broke to afford an engagement ring for me. So I bought my own ring. I guess he’s gotten a bad rep on this site. I admit that I sort of felt bad about that. But only for a second.

So yeah, I didn’t buy my own engagement ring. The engagement ring from my first husband was teeny tiny and didn’t cost a lot of money. Naturally he was able to afford it. And naturally I kept it after the divorce and gave it to one of my friends as a Christmas present. Hey, what did I want with the tainted ring?

My old ring now lives a happy and loved life on the finger of my friend. She wears it everyday and I hope (I hope!) she doesn’t think of divorce every time she looks at it.

I also got a lot of people who thought that I had never traveled out of state until I was nineteen. While I admit I wasn’t a very traveled person growing up, not only had I left the state, but I lived in more then one state growing up.

Not to mention the fact that my family drove to Disneyland when I was in high school. And there was the one time we stayed in a cabin on a dude ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I mean, how else would I have amassed such an awesome postcard collection if I hadn’t left the state?

Where I live at least two episodes of “Friends” is on every night. I’m rarely home watching TV at the time they air. But in the off chance that I do turn the TV on and see Rachel yelling “we were on a break” to Ross, I can usually tell you what the next line will be.

Like Carrie said “not seeing an episode ofFriends‘ all the way through? Pshaw…that can’t be possible.”

Not only am I confident in saying that I have, in fact, seen every episode of “Friends”, I admit to also having most of them cataloged on VHS tapes at my mom’s house as well as numerous books on the subject.

I (cough) sort of went through a (cough) phase.

Those are some of the lies. And now for one of the truths.

You’ve all long known that Sweet Babboo isn’t my son’s given name. Heck, we don’t even call him that at home. That being said, I must admit to you that I fell in love with his real name while watching a movie years before becoming pregnant.

That’s right, I named my kid after a character in a movie that I was attracted to. Totally.

What was the movie? Well, it was one of these:

sixteen.jpg

Is his name based on a nerd, or a high school king? Or maybe a thief. Or the leader of a band of thieves.

ocean1311.jpg

Or maybe it’s based on someone who stages realistic, yet mock, suicides.

And maybe, just maybe, it’s based on someone fighting evil in Middle Earth.

lord-of-the-rings-1-3.jpg

We love his name in and by itself. No matter who the character was.

(And please, for the love of the interweb, let’s not play the “let me guess Babboo’s real name in the comments sections” game today. Seriously.)

So tell me, did anyone play along on their blog?

Come back tomorrow where I’ll tell you some more of the lies. And maybe the other truth.

Shoot! I completely disregarded the one about Babboo’s name. (Although, I still think Trent from Daria is super hott, so who am I to be anti-movie crushes?)

I’m relieved to hear that the “Friends” one was a lie. When I was in college, my roomie and I could find back-to-back episodes of friends pretty much any time of day. So it was on A LOT in our apartment.

I thought you named Babboo after that guy on Lost. Silly me.

Now I remember you lived in Oregon! Duh! Stupid me! I totally could have had that one!

I just want to say what a fabulous movie I think Harold and Maude is. That’s all.

I can’t believe only one person was right! Then again, I wouldn’t have gotten the one about Babboo and I KNOW his name! haha. Tells you what a good friend I am. I am pretty sure I know the other truth and I am very intrigued to see if/what you will write about it. (you know, where to draw the line on blog privacy and all). I’ll be back tomorrow!! :)

Way to narrow down Babboo’s real name! What does that leave? 18 possibilities!?Personally, I’m a big fan of JC’s character name in the first picture.

Thanks for the link! I feel so honored.

Before I got married and had a baby it was my goal to name my child after a character on Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Star Wars. Yeah…didn’t happen. So now I just name my pets after them.

Now I know why I got this one wrong. Because I remember where he got his MIDDLE name, and it wasn’t a movie character. Shoot!

I know Babboo’s real name, but I couldn’t think of a movie with a mainish character with that name, so I disregarded that one. I still think the other is #5.

I think you secretly wanted to name your child Farmer Ted.

I think your glasses are fake.

    I’m probably wrong.

    I heart Harold and Maude.

    P.S.
It’s always the sweet looking ones that get away with and pull off EVERYTHING.

    Dang it.

I was just going to comment that I adore Harold and Maude, then I saw that other people here do too - but IRL I only know one other person who has seen it!

And even if it would be perpetuating a lie, please don’t tell me and everyone else that you can’t really pee standing up.

And I didn’t copy it to my blog since I only have a few entries, but I promise to do it at some point when it would be fair for people to guess.

I’m still in shock that I won, and that I was the ONLY person to get them right - I’m a good guesser I guess!

Can’t wait to get the cd! And I can’t wait to come back tomorrow and read what you have to say about your other truth :)

Also, I don’t care what his name is, but I think it’s against internet law to post a picturific post and not include one of the kid. I’m just sayin’.

This is unrelated to the contest, but AS’s office is across the street from a photographers’ supply store called Baboo. The spelling is a bit off, but I think of you every time I pass it!
