With or without cream?January 17th, 2008 @ 5:01 am
Being as I and work in downtown Seattle, The City Which is All About Coffee, my company has it’s own special Starbucks coffee machine in the kitchen. This thing will make you a cup of joe. Or a half caf cup of joe. It will even make you a huge pot of joe if say, you were having a meeting and needed a huge pot of joe.
Not only does this machine do all this, it will also, and here’s the best part, make you a frothy cup of steaming hot cocoa. All you’ve got to do is push a couple of buttons and stuck your mug under the dispenser.
If there was an award given to the master of making frothy cups of steaming hot cocoa, I’d have the Gold Medal.
One of The King’s favorite things to do in the winter evenings is walk around downtown Seattle with a stop at my office to take part in the free and delicious hot cocoa while looking out the window at the view of the Puget Sound and the Space Needle. While doing this a few months ago he came to the conclusion that he would also like to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa every morning on his way to his office.
And thus he decided that that was exactly what he needed.
The next morning I got a call at my desk. It was The King. He had just left our apartment. He and Babboo would be outside my office building in a few minutes. And he would like me to meet him with a frothy cup of steaming hot cocoa.
Oh, and he would need a lid. You know, so he won’t spill any on Babboo.
Knowing how much I love and appreciate my own frothy cup of steaming hot cocoa every morning, I obliged. I made up a cup. Put on my coat and scarf. Grabbed my access card. And took the elevator down to meet them.
I’m a good wife.
After a few days, I grew tired of this little routine.
Hey, I’m not that good of a wife.
The King stopped calling me and requesting a cup. I quit reminding him how good it tastes.
Yesterday morning, my desk phone rang. The King needed me to meet him in front of my office to give him some stamps for a few bills he was paying.
I decided to meet him with a frothy cup of steaming hot cocoa and the requested stamps. I down played it though. I didn’t want him getting any ideas and thinking I’d do this for him everyday.
So tell me, what little things does your significant other appreciate? More importantly, what little things do you appreciate?

Today is Wednesday Thursday (dude, I can’t believe I as a DAY OFF!). Which means I posted over at SeattleMomBlogs. This week’s topic; is on-site daycare a thing of the 80’s? Come on over and discuss. Really, I’m curious.

Remember how my baby sister was trying to win a free trip to South America from her company? The winner was announced yesterday, and since I promised to keep you updated, I’m here to tell you that she did not win the trip to South America. (Which is probably for the best. Being as there is an active volcano in the town they are going to right now!) Instead of winning the trip, she won $500 cash and a paid day off.
She was quite happy with her winnings.
I don’t blame her. It sounds good to me.

Heck $500.00 and a day off sounds pretty good to me!!! Thats an in-state holiday to a nice SPA!!
I make my husband’s lunch every single morning and sometimes throw little extra special somethings in there, THAT is how I express my love… and he truly appreciates it (although once in a blue moon I have to remind him to appreciate it)

Lots of times when my husband runs in the gas station for something, he returns with a single banana laffy taffy. It’s my favorite. And I don’t even ask for it. It’s quite sweet. =)

Wow, you are a good wife! I do the morning routine at our house while my husband shaves and showers. I take the dogs out, warm up his car, toast an English muffin for him for breakfast, pack a lunch for him and write a note to put in said lunch (the more embarrassing, the better). And I am SO not a morning person so this is a big deal for me.
He does the chores I hate doing, like cleaning the toilets. And I get random emails at work thanking me for everything I do… they make my day.

We have a coffee machine at work but I don’t know how to work it very well. It has coolness potential, if I only knew how to make it make good stuff!

You are the best wife ever! I am really jealous of your coffee machine. Ours sucks.
I am pissed that your sister didn’t win the trip. With all her hard work, she deserved it! But $500 and a paid day off is a pretty good consolation prize.

Oh I am so fatalistic about this! For me, each time seems like possibly the last time. Like when I go to the airport to tell my significant other the farewells. Even if that means I have to get up at 3 a.m. for that. Even if he had not found time for me the day before. Long distance sucks (but you already had a post about that)!

I get Kev’s clothes ready for him every night. He thinks it’s sweet, but it’s also insurance that he will not turn on the light in our room at 2:30 am! And we text all day long when he’s working. There he is right now!

HP picks up the slack by taking care of the kids during tax season and never complains. I do the same when he is at his night classes. We have a great partnership I know I am very, very lucky (and so is he!).

I love it when Jon turns my heated seat on for me. I hate a cold tush.
He likes it when I do not roll my eyes at his jokes. Kidding, he loves a home cooked meal. And, I hate cooking for one, so I am happy to do this

Great question. It really made me think about what we do for each other without being asked.
The Hubs does taekwondo 4 times a week which requires a clean and ironed uniform. I hate, HATE ironing, but he’s got a pressed uniform for every class.
I am an office supply junkie. I know. I need help. Just last week my hubby brought me home a brand new notebook. On recycled paper even! Fantastic

It’s all about the lime and black pepper potato chips or the Mexican Quick (as opposed to regular, American, 25% less sugar aka “nasty” Quick) for The Boy… he loves them, I pick them up, life is good.

I would happily take $500 and a paid day off right about now! Congrats to her
Also, I’m not a coffee drinker, but I still have a major weakness for the Starbucks hot cocoa, so I might start swinging by for a fill-up too, haha!
My favorite little thing that my husband does is the fact that he almost always gets dinner started for us since he’s home for about an hour and a half before I get home. It always makes me smile and love him that little bit more!

$500 and a paid day off is a great prize!!
I am good about cooking for AS and reminding him to do things in a non-nagging way. For example, I remind him when his grandmother’s birthday is coming up. He sends a card and gets major grandson points, I look like a super star girlfriend!

Shaun will buy me Hot Cheetos when I need them. Or just to surprise me. It’s probably one of the most thougtful things he can do for me.
Congrats to your sister! I think I’d rather have had the $500 than the trip if I was her.

I’ll cook dinner at his house and leave him the leftovers. I also leave him racy post-it notes sometimes. He tells me I’m beautiful and fabulous and wonderful and sends me flowers for no reason.
Congratulations to your sister. I’d take the $500 and the day off. Spa day, anyone?

Hmmm, I leave all my friends & playdates & the beautifully remodeled kitchen in Seattle to move to Reno & support my husband while he goes back to school. Does that count? Because I’m not very nice besides that… I think I’ve reached my limit of “niceness”… But the King is very lucky to have you & your frothy hot chocolate. Mmmm, that sounds good…

Mine is so domestic. It is when I clear the dishwasher for the Mrs. while she is at school. I work from home and always remember about lunch time to clean it out for us. She is always way too happy that I’ve done that.
My wife’s happy for me is usually some special food or snack when I’m not expecting it. Some out of the blue cookies, my favorite granola etc.

Thom is very nice and offers to start my car for me on cold and icy mornings. Sometimes he’ll even scrap my windows for me. I like that.
In return he likes it when I make him smoothies or bagels in the morning for breakfast.
Oh and I also like the fact that he takes my bra off for me every night. He’s helpful like that.

My husband gets up every morning to make my lunch before I go to work. I love that.
He likes it when I surprise him by cooking dinner so he doesn’t have to.

I had to stop and think about this, but I thought of something! I lay out my husband’s clothes for him almost every morning.

My husband opens every.single.door for me. Car doors, retail shop doors, the door to the house…and carries in my groceries while I put them away. I iron his clothes. This is a big deal because I HATE ironing.

Congrats to your sis.
As for the spouse thing… Sometimes the honey will head to Quik Trip (gas station with a crazy amount of fountain sodas, coffees, slushies, smoothies and whatnot.) He’ll get me a “coke cocktail” which is 3/4 diet coke and 1/4 reg coke. Swear it tastes as good as reg coke. Sometimes he does it on Saturdays without even asking. Better than getting roses! heehee.
You are SUCH a great wifey-poo. Your hubby is a lucky dude! (Course it sounds like he knows this!)

i like this post a lot!
Husband scoops the cat litter, which I hatehate.
I pack his lunches when we have leftovers and sometimes buy him treats like brownies or other things he likes.
Actually, I think small thoughtful things have a pretty big impact on a marriage!

I love that you brought the stamps with a side of cocoa! I bet that made the King’s day.
A few nights ago, I mentioned in passing how I wished we had ice cream in the house. Then I went upstairs for a long night of freelance proofreading. After a few hours of work, Tim placed a bowl of ice cream in front of me and said “what do you know? Sometimes when you work extra hard, the ice cream gnomes make ice cream appear in the freezer!” I appreciated that very much.
