Photo evidence that we went to Canada last weekendJanuary 4th, 2008 @ 7:01 am
While we took two cameras and one camcorder with us to Canada last weekend, we didn’t really take any pictures and not one second of video. Dude, it’s like I’m allergic to actually taking my camera out of my purse and taking a freakin’ picture.
Of course I did manage to snap this ditty while we were waiting to catch the ferry to Granville Island.

Because, while I’m too lazy to take the time to capture my child enjoying his first ferry ride, I’m not too lazy to take pictures I know the interweb will enjoy.
Did you hear that the winter Olympics are going to be in Vancouver in 2010? Yeah well, they are and I think that’s pretty cool. Of course I’m pretty sure that I won’t attend any of the events, (can you just imagine what the border crossing would be like? It took us an hour to cross last weekend), it was fun to see all the Olympic paraphernalia around town, like the official countdown.

And hello, no pictures of me with my family? Nope. When this one was taken The King and Babboo were back at the hotel taking a nap. (I wished I was taking a nap and not out in the cold. But I took one for the team and let The King go back to the room.)
(Looking at this picture of me makes me laugh. You can totally tell I’m freezing my ass off, but trying to hide it. Yeah, it was cold. I even wore knit tights under my jeans. The King was all “those pants look like they shrunk” and I was all “yeah, I have thick tights on under them. I promise.”)
Oh wait, I also took this awesome picture of a street performer on Granville Island. We sat, in the cold, and watched this guy do amazing tricks for almost an hour.

We gave him $5 (American) and our friends gave him $5 (Canadian). We figured the guy was making a pretty good living. Our only concern was for his safety, because clearly, his job as a street performer doesn’t provide health insurance.
And then we remembered that Canada has socialized medicine. He’s got it made in the shade.
So tell me, am I the only one that comes back from a vacation without any good pictures of the family together?

I don’t have ONE picture of Joel and I together, out of over 400 pictures, from our vacation this summer. Not a one.

When I was putting together a scrapbook album for the husband and I’s wedding, I realized that despite being together for almost 8 years before we got married, we had less than 15 picture together even though we had all of our college experiences, a summer living in Wyoming and travel all over the place. Since then the timer option on our camera has been in use non stop.

When I came back from Spain and proudly shoved my 4 rolls of pictures (no digital camera back then) in Tim’s face to show him all the places I’d been and the sights I’d seen, he flipped through them quickly and then said “But where are all the pictures of YOU?” Apparently I was supposed to have asked every passing stranger to take my picture in front of all of these sights rather than just capturing the beautiful buildings on film. I learned my lesson, though, and am much better at getting “people pictures” these days.

Nope, you’re not the only ones… Whenever my husband and I vacation there ends up being 100’s of picturs of him, a few of us together and virtually none of me… I can only IMAGINE what its going to be like once our child is born…

I am so jealous that you live that close to Vancouver. It is one of my very favorite cities.
And Vancouver island? Hello! A little slice of HEAVEN.
Sigh…

Sweet photos. And nice of the King to say that he thought the pants had “shrunk” instead of the alternative. 3-year-old-daughter keeps pointing out my 2-week-post-delivery belly & saying, “The baby is out, right? What’s in your belly now?” Not quite as subtle.

In putting together the photo boards for my daughters’ funerals, I realized that there weren’t a lot of pictures of me with the girls, because I was the one taking the picture. Now I’m trying to master the “stick the camera out in front of you” for self-portraits. So far I’ve managed to cut off my head, or my fellow subject. Thank god for digital and delete.
And if I’m on vacation I’d be afraid to ask someone to take my picture for fear they’d steal my camera.

Nope! I went to Hawaii and came back with very little photos of the family. Well any that were ‘good’.
I so want to visit Canada. I’m totally jealous.

Ok, that ferries picture is fantastic. The vacation we took this summer was the first one that we managed to get a family picture taken. Usually, they are of our kids and whichever parent isn’t taking the pictures.

I wish I could have gone on vacation! But sadly, no… no pictures. I DO have pictures up of New Years Eve though!

Street performers are cool. I saw a guy playing the bagpipes at temple square once. Much better then the typical cellist or guitarist.

I almost went to Canada for New Year’s too! Though I was in Detroit and would’ve gone to Windsor, so I wouldn’t have seen you anyway. But Canada is Canada, right?
except that I didn’t go.

Sigh.

No, I’m pretty sure you and the other people who wrote to you are the only people who would ever be that idiotic. Of course, there was that time I took my whole family all the way to Germany and didn’t take a single group photo…… but I’m sure that’s not the same thing. ? .

I take tons of pictures on vacations, but mostly they all end up being of Nick. He’s mastered the extended arm shot of the both of us, so sometimes I’m in some too. But yeah, mostly all of Nick.

Oooo back topic.
For 16 years of ‘family’ vacations the photos are almost all of my husband and the kids. You would never even KNOW that I was on vacation WITH THEM because he won’t grab the camera and take any. For years I would angrily hand him the camera and say “Will you PLEASE take ONE FREAKIN PICTURE OF ME SO I CAN PROVE I WAS ON THIS VACATION TOO????”
Finally - in the past 2 years or so he’s learned to take one or two (very bad) pictures that I’m in. But at least I’m in them. LOL.

I for one appreciate your random assortment of photos from around the city I once called my home. And let’s face it, even if you did take some family photos your camera would probably just insert more of those bars over your eyes anyways…

he TOTALLY makes a good living. I’ve seen the same street performer. NEARLY TEN YEARS AGO. And I am way sure its the same guy on Granville Island. Don’t worry about his health too much

Oh, no, you’re not the only one. When Brett and I took a month-long road trip right after college, we only took one roll of film the entire time, and 3/4 of that was of Brett standing in various locations in Dealy Plaza, where JFK was shot. On the grassy knoll! By the wooden fence! Where Mr. Zapruder shot his movie! (Brett used to be kind of obsessed with the JFK assassination topic.) Thankfully we have a cute snapshot of the two of us at the Grand Canyon and a couple good ones of me and my granddad (it was the last time we saw him before he passed away), but that’s about it.
Oh, and our honeymoon? Not one stinkin’ photo. Not one.

I sometimes do the same thing. Also, the only pics I have of me and Kaylie or Haley or Alyssa, I have taken them myself. I think Chris is allergic to the camera.

You were in Vancouver, in my ‘hood and didn’t call?! Glad you had such a great time and even “gladder” to know that you had brilliant weather for the occasion.

[…] In which I host, what is rumored to be, the “best shower ever”February 22nd, 2008 @ 7:01 am You might not have heard, but I hosted a baby shower last night for my dear friend (you know, the ones we went to Canada with). I’m was happy to do this, you know, until I heard the guest list was well over thirty people. […]
