In which I lose count of all my piercings after about nine
December 18th, 2007 @ 7:01 am

First off, congrats are in order for Frema and Mr. Frema on their brand new little 11 lbs baby. I’m sort of afraid that I sealed her fate with my post yesterday. Gulp. Hey, sorry about that Frema.

And now, let’s talk more about me. It’s my favorite topic.

Gag. I kid.

But yeah, let’s talk about me.

I got my ear pierced when I was ten. Or maybe eleven. All I remember was that I was the last one at my school to get my ears pierced. My mom was old skool and made me wait until I was a little older. (Of course my baby sister was allowed to get her ears pieced when she was like four. Jerk.) So I got my ears pierced and I loved it. I loved it so much that I got a second hole in my left ear a few years later. My mom did too. We were fierce. Seriously, I thought my mom was so hardcore with her second piercing.

By the time I hit junior high I was sporting a third hole in my left ear. And by the time I hit high school I was sporting a fourth hole. And then all hell broke loose and I just kept getting holes in my ear. But dude, only in my left one. I was adamant about that. It was art.

You must remember that I’m old. Which means that the whole piercing craze was long off. So long off that I remember a guy on the “Sally Jessy Raphael Show” who had his tongue pierced. It was big news. I really wanted more piercings, but really there wasn’t much room left on my poor ear. So I got that part pierced at the opening of your ear (I have no idea what it’s called). It was awesome and I loved it. I felt very hardcore.

After college, I was still sporting all my earrings, but now the piercing craze had really taken off. More and more people were sporting face and body piercings. Everyone, including myself, had their belly button pierced. And more and more guys were getting their ear pierced. It the small town I’m from guys with earrings were still looked at with the assumption that they were gay or a pirate. I don’t even have to tell you that my older (gay) brother had his ear pierced. He may have even had both of his ears pierced.

Time went on, still had my earrings, still had my belly ring and now I was married. I was really into guys with earrings (hey, it was the 90’s, everyone was into that) and so my (ex) husband got his ear pierced. I loved it and thought it was so hott. His dad told him he was not welcome in their house if he had a “queer earring” in his ear.

I was all “whatever, you’re a married adult! If you want to have an earring, you can!” But my ex was all “I am desperate for my daddy’s approval” and he took it out. Wuss.

I kept all of mine in, which was fine by his family since I wasn’t “queer”.

Time went on some more, and I got divorced, moved in with my folks, and then I met The King. He may have mentioned to me at some point that he didn’t like multiple earrings. Or belly rings. That was it, I took them all out. (Except for the originals. You always gotta keep the originals.)

Geez, it’s been over seven years and I still sort of miss all my piercings. But not enough to shove earrings through all of them. I’m thinking that this isn’t a good look for my office job.

So tell me, did you go through the piercings craze like I did? And if so, I’d love to hear all about it.

I swear, you get cooler with every post I read.

I have just regular piercings on my ears. At one time I had a loop through the top of one ear but it kept getting infected.

Now I’m all about the tattoos - 4 and counting…

I wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced until I was about 10; my mom’s rule too, except she kept it up with my baby sister. That was all I was allowed while living at home, plus I have tiny earlobes, so there really isn’t enough space for a second piercing on the lobe part. I’ve always wanted second holes though.

Then when I started college I got a piercing at the top of my left ear. That one lasted until I got a job at a fancy restaurant at 21 and I had to either cover it up or take it out, so I took it out.

I also got my belly button pierced at 19, and that one actually stayed in until about a month ago when I was starting to show a little and so I decided it was time.

My dad always said if one of us boys came home with an ear pierced he’d rip it out on the spot. I, for one, think he would have done just that, so I never had my ear pierced.

However, 3 or 4 years ago I got my tongue pierced…mainly because my wife didn’t think I’d go through with it. But I loved it. Funny part is I had it for a little over a year before taking it out, and my parents never even noticed it.

Want to know my dirty little secret? I fear that I have become one of those old people who should really take it out and just get over it, but Joel likes it. most of the time I totally forget about it, until someone notices it and goes into the “OMG! I didn’t know you had a belly ring!” and then I die of embarassment because, dude. I am too old to have this thing.

I also have 4 holes in my earlobes (2 in each ear) and one in my left cartilage. I usually only wear earrings in the bottom holes, but sometimes I bust out all 5 earrings at once. I’m such a rebel.

I’m STILL going through the piercing craze. I have 4 holes in each ear (including a cartilage piercing in each ear) and a belly button ring. I got my first holes when I was 4. I’m trying to hold myself back from getting more. I should probably just take the belly button ring out since I’ll never show my stomach in public again after having my son, but I’ve had it since I was 16 (my mom took me to get it!) so I’m just so used to it being there.

I got my first earrings at 9, the standard age in my family. Then at 18, I decided I wanted more. So I got my ears peirced again. Then about a year later I realized that it looked icky, so I never put one in there. But I have a hole in my ear that has been there since birth and I have tried about 80 bagillion times to put an earring through. It never works, but I try every couple of months or so.

Husband doesn’t particularly like all of my peircings ( I have 10 currently) so I had planned on taking them out the night before our wedding as a surprise. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it! I’m quite sure that I would miss them, as I just got a new one two weeks ago. It’s an industrial, and it rocks. Oh my god, I’m not sure that I’m ever going to grow up…

I did go through the piercing stage, had three in each ears with the one up high on my right ear. Now I only have the “normal” holes I use daily…

And as another commentor stated, I have tatoos as well, 2 to be exact. And I just got that second one in August. Just don’t tell my family…

I got my cartilege pierced in my left ear in college. Kept it all through college and then the night before my big, big-girl job interview, I took it out and haven’t put it back in since. (I got the job, so there was no sense in keeping it anyway)

I just had one earring in each ear and a hoop in my upper left ear. Not like your hardcore piercing, but like where the drawing of the little silver v (is that a hoop?) in your picture is.

H had two earrings in his left ear, but he took them out during his second year of law school. Even though he never wears earrings, the holes haven’t closed up yet. It’s been 7 years. Weird.

I still have all of my piercings (13 in the ears, total) except for my lip ring. The only reason I took that one out was because it made it very hard to eat things like sandwiches and apples. I don’t even pay attention to my earrings anymore, and nobody ever mentions them.
They are a part of me and always will be and always have been.

Where I grew up, guys were only “queer” if they had their right ear pierced; the left ear was A-OK.

I have two holes in each earlobe and one in my left ear cartilage (up at the top). I hardly ever wear earrings anymore, but the only piercing I never use these days is the one in my cartilage. Like you, I don’t feel like it’s a good look for the office job.

I got my belly button pierced as soon as I turned 18, and I still wear a bar in there. It’s my favorite piercing, and my husband loves it, so it’s not going anywhere until I get fat or pregnant.

At one point I had two holes in each ear and one in the left cartilage - seems pretty popular, no? I only wear earrings in the original holes now.

My mom (yes, my MOM) and my sister both have their noses pierced. That’s not exactly my style, but lately, for some unknown reason, I have really wanted an eyebrow ring.

I got my ears pierced when i was “older” too (age 7) and then I got my ears pierced again, so I had 2 in each ear, but I let the 2nd holes close up, so I only have single in each ear now. and never had anything else….

My ears were pierced when I was 2 or 3. That was all well and good until I was 19. Then I got my right nipple pierced. It was not done correctly and it hurt like no other pain in this world as it rejected and had to be removed. So I got my tongue pierced. Then I had the nipple re-pierced. This time it was done correctly and didn’t hurt. Really. But, it too, rejected. Apparently I was not meant to have pierced nipples. Somewhere along the line I had my ears pierced again on both sides. Then I decided that look wasn’t for me and took out the 2nd set of hoops. This was back in 1995 or so…

Once I began seeing every tweener AND their mom sporting a tongue piercing I took mine out and never looked back.

I still have 5 in one ear and 3 in the other (odd on each ear but even together!). I wanted my nose and belly-button done, but my mom did hers first. After that it just wasn’t so cool anymore…

I got my first piercing right after I graduated from high school - and it was a single cartilage piercing. Got it done at beach week with AmyW! At some point after that I got two normal ear piercings, then a second set in each ear and then I did a third ear piercing in my left ear in an odd place. So I have 3 holes in each ear, 2 sets matching, one set does not. And then I did my nose a few months ago. I always wanted my nose pierced, and finally just did it. And I love it! Oh, and I had my belly button pierced for a while but took it out when I got pregnant with my first son. I haven’t redone it since, but will eventually. I love piercings, and would be willling to do more - and I love tattoo’s too. I have seven…….for now.

Only the normal earring piercing — just two holes. No tats, either. I’m very indecisive, so I could NEVER be happy with a tattoo; also, I’m not into pain, so no go on the additional piercings (I had a bad infection in one ear from an earring/hair misfortune, so adding more (potential) misery? Not for me).

I got two cartilage piercings when I was in college & wore hoops up there (and no other earrings), but they hurt to sleep on, so I took them out. Apparently Claire’s at the mall is NOT the place to get your piercings done…

Yes and yes. I had double ear lobe piercings and one at the top of my ear in high school. I got my nose pierced (twice, first time they screwed it up and I bled all over the piercing shop - crazy story.) And the belly button of course. Do you still have all the holes in your ears? I do, and I think I could probably get earring through them if I really wanted to. But I’m not ready for that kind of pain right now.

When I was in 8th grade, pierced the top of my ear in the mall food court with a friend’s cheapo earring stud. I numbed it with ice and jabbed (and jabbed, and jabbed) until it broke through with a “crack.” While the piercing is run-of-the-mill today, I was made fun of pretty bad for it. I guess I wasn’t popular enough to be different. :-(

I never got into piercing (though I have two holes in each ear), but I always wanted a tatoo of a daisy chain around my ankle. I never got it; my mom threatened she would stop paying my tuition if I got one. Now I’m kind of glad I didn’t get one, but I can still understand the allure of using your body as art.

And, since I know you do moderation you don’t have to post this part, but tell Marci I said happy birthday. I always remember hers because it was the day after Cindy T.

Isabel: I will forward your birthday wishes to Marci!!!

I got my ears pierced the first time for my 8th birthday. I still remember pretty much everything about it I was so excited. When I was a senior in high school, on Spring Break, the whole group of girls that I was with went to Alvin’s Island (touristy gift shop place) in Panama City, FL and all got more piercings. I got 2nd holes in both ears and a 3rd on the left(?). however, the 3rd hole just never really took. Even though I kept them clean and spun the earrings and all the things you’re supposed to do, that 3rd hole was always trying to grow back together. So, eventually (like within a year), I just let it. I kept the 2nd holes through most of college (I think), but eventually let those close up, too. So, now all I have are the originals.

Put me down for nine piercings, all in my ears. And I didn’t start until I was 12. I didn’t realize I was part of a craze, since I got them over time and each one has a story.

I wear them to work and I don’t think anyone has ever really noticed them (or, at least, no one has ever commented on them). I never considered that I might be too old to have so many earrings!

I only have one hole in each ear that I got when I was nine (my dad made me memorize my multiplication tables up to fifteen times fifteen before I could get them). I wanted to get another set, but Imy dad wasn’t really into the idea (he didn’t like the first set, really, but oculdn’t say no because my mom had her ears pierced), and then a few months later, there was Pres. Hinckley’s whole “only one set of earrings” thing, so that was the end of that.

Dude, I pierced my cartilage by myself with a sewing needle when I was 16. I thought I was so badass! I also had my belly button pierced, but took it out after a few years because I got tired of it. Now I just have one piercing in each ear, which I’ve had since I was 10.

My Dad was against any piercings. He thought they defiled the body. My parents left on a trip to Portugal and my friend and I pierced my ears with an ice cube and sewing needle. I was 15. My Dad noticed later and of course blew it out of proportion. When I was 17 I pierced my belly button. It was my own private secret that no one but my sexy boyfriend knew about. I took could care of the piercing and left it in till I was about 22 and was finally dating some conservatice guy and I wanted to prove to him I was all grown up. I regretted it slightly later, and tried to put it back in. Of course that didn’t work. But can you imagine what would happen if we left our belly rings in during pregnancy. It wouldn’t have been pretty to see that rip!

I got my ears peirced the first time when I was two. Then they closed, and I got them done again when I was 8. Then I got both sides pierced a second time when I was 11, but they closed soon after. Then I got a cartilidge piercing on my left ear when I was 13, and then I got my right side pierced a second time (since the first set closed), but only the right side. Then my best friend and I decided to get a mid cartilidge piercing on the right ear when I was 18. I got my first and only tattoo that’s on the inside of my left wrist when I was 17, and I got my lip pierced when I was 18. And I still have them all in and I love them all. I have a feeling I’ll be taking out my lip one when I am a teacher though.

I must be pretty lame because I just have one piercing in each ear (got them on my 10th birthday). I hardly wear earrings in them anymore unless I’m dressed up for some reason.
