I’m bringing yummy backNovember 14th, 2007 @ 5:01 am
Making dinner is always an issue at our house. Mostly because Babboo’s nineteen months old and can’t stand to be apart from me for more then eleven seconds. (Can you blame him?) I typically prepare dinner with him crying and holding onto my legs saying “mama, up” over and over again.
I assume this is typical for every household, the world over.
Last night I decided to pull up a chair and have Babboo help me mix the ingredients for the pizza dough. He loved stirring it and he especially loved throwing flour on himself and the kitchen floor. I loved having him not have tears in his eyes. It’s the little things that make me happy.
After the dough had raised (risen?) sufficiently I got out the rolling pin and Babboo and I began making our pizzas, just like we always did when I was a kid.
Pizza night at my parent’s house was always the day my mom went grocery shopping. We would make homemade pizzas with the fresh ingredients she had just purchased. We always made two pizzas; one pepperoni and olives and one Canadian bacon and pineapple. We loved pizza night.
Last night Babboo and I decided to take things up a notch and make three pizzas instead of the typical two. (And also, I didn’t have any Canadian bacon.) (Plus, I didn’t want to share my pepperoni pizza with Babboo.)
Babboo and I made a Mama pizza and a baby pizza (mine with turkey pepperoni and fat free cheese.)
We also made a Dada pizza with our left over BBQ sauce and some baked chicken.
The King loves BBQ chicken pizza (I hate it). He ate the entire thing in one sitting, even though it gave him a stomach ache. He said he was eating the best meal he’d ever had and couldn’t justify stopping just because of a little stomach pain.
Babboo also ate his entire baby pizza. Which I find ironic since when I ask him if he likes pizza he always says, with a smile, “No!”
I always knew he was lying.

Mmm, those look tasty! We made pizzas too last night - old skool style. As a kid we always had english muffin pizzas. And the ones we made last night were just as good as I remember from the 80s (bonus that they are so totally easy!). Even though I didn’t have the toastmaster oven. I managed to make do.

I just made one last week, but I cheated on the dough and went store bought. Turkey pepperoni is the way to go…

What a fun night you guys had. And homemade pizza is the best!
When we were kids, my mom would make mini-pizzas on English muffins. They were awesome, and I always think about doing the same thing. I just always forget!

Mmm, I love pizza. And I loved that line about you loving that Baboo didn’t have tears in his eyes.

I think your pizza looks way better than The King’s. I also do not like BBQ chicken pizza. And I’m still trying to find turkey pepperoni around here. Why they gotta be so difficult?

ew… barbeque chicken definitely does not belong on pizza. my parents love it though, and apparently so does the king. those pizzas look awesome and kudos to you for making them from scratch! i love it.

Wow! It totally looks like you’ve brought yummy back!
Like Lizzy, apparently I have excessive fear of mess.
Also, happily, 21 months = 5% less clingy, such that sometimes I can do five full minutes of dinner prep without Noah attempting to wedge himself between me and the stove. But helping? Teh awesome.

We do pizza a lot too! I love it and Trinity loves to help!! I let her make her own and pick out what she wants on it. I use wraps though, and skip the dough making. I might try the pre-made dough at Trader Joe’s.
I put ingredients in a prep bowl, then hold her up and let her put them on her pizza. And, I think the helping part makes her more likely to eat it!

I would love to make my own pizza, but AS has horror stories about making pizza in college and getting the proportions wrong in the dough. It resulted in some interesting bathroom time for his roommates… not something I’m excited about.

I love pepperoni and olive, it is my all time favorite. Ash hates home made pizza, but he is out of town so maybe the kids and I will try it tonight. Thanks for the inspiration.

That’s so awesome that you were able to include him in making dinner. I love to include Zach when I can.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned to you before that Zach is the pickiest eater ever. He’ll eat pizza, but he wont’ eat it with anything on it. No pepperoni, no olives… nothing. Just in the last few weeks, Shaun has been making him eat foods he’s never eaten before… He has meatloaf (which this is his first time eating beef. Ever.) and he made him eat his first pepperoni on Sunday. Zach acted like he didn’t like it, but he ate it all, and without much persuasion. He totally liked it.

That was so cute — “I always knew he was lying.” Jack does the same thing, especially when I ask him if he likes his new bedroom. He grins ear to ear and says, Noooo!

In a weird twist, this is also what we did/do and with the same pizza toppings. Pots and pans on the floor with their lids are also a great, if noisy, distraction.

Yummy! I am thinking we should have pizza night that doesn’t involve someone coming to my door with a few cardboard boxes (my boys are older and hungrier) wanting a tip!

Our pizza night always gets delivered here because we are so very lazy. Yours looks way more fun. And Babboo’s baby pizza is so freaking cute.
