Is Tupac dead?
November 13th, 2007 @ 5:01 am

Last week some of my coworkers were in Oklahoma on a business trip. Since they’re nice guys they were thoughtful enough to send me some pictures of the Tulsa area for my enjoyment.

I found this picture to be perfect, on so many levels.

And since I know Carrisa lives in Tulsa I immediately forwarded the picture to her and told her I didn’t realize her husband was into flannel that much. Or that his mullet had grown so long since last I had seen him.

I also told her I liked her blue van.

She wrote me right back and congratulated my coworker on his ability to capture every single Oklahoma stereotype in one simple photograph. And then she told me to stop making fun of her awesome blue van. And her husband.

(She’s nice to play along with my lame ass jokes.)

The following day my coworker sent me yet another picture he took in Oklahoma.

I guess the fine folks who live in Oklahoma are staying true to the thug life and representing. (What do I know? Maybe Tupac is, in fact, not dead.)

When my coworker told me that he took the above picture outside the Jenks, Oklahoma post office I got giddy. Dude, Carrisa works in Jenks. Maybe she’s the president of the Tupac is Not Dead Club, Jenks branch.

Again, I e-mailed her the picture to see if she recognized it. Thankfully she didn’t. But she did recognize the post office. She says it’s the one she uses when she sends me a package.

It’s like all of my world got extra close last week. Maybe I’m a nerd but I think that’s pretty cool.

So tell me, have you seen any good graffiti around your neck of the woods lately? Whatever you’ve seen has got to be better then what was found in Jenks, Oklahoma!

I make the same jokes… if some crazy guy is screaming on the street, I’ll turn to whomever I’m with and ask what their cousin is doing. Sometimes they don’t get it, and they’re like that’s not my cousin.
It’s less funny when that happens.

My cousin used to tell me that Tupac wasn’t dead… but whatever, I was too obsessed with Hanson.

Speaking of Hanson, they are from Tulsa Oklahoma as well!!! Is it sad that I still know that?

I really need to post my love story of Hanson soon.

    Wow what a small world!

I love stereotypes. They’re so wrong yet so right…

I’m lame and usually can’t even read graffiti when I do see it. I don’t get their graffiti font. Why does it have to be so messy?

Elvis is not dead. Tupac - not so much.

I work in St. Louis and there is some very artistic graffiti on the flood wall by the river. If I could post a picture, I would, but that would require some kind of technical whatsit that I just don’t possess.

p.s. Oklahoma is very nice compared to a lot of other midwestern cities I’ve been to. Wooowee!

Don’t forget JFK! Definitely still alive! Probably hanging out with Tupac, Elvis and Kurt Cobain. Oh, and Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

There’s some pretty cool graffiti on my fence. Got put there during stake conference. Ass holes. I dunno what it says. It’s all gangsta lingo.

Most of the graffiti around here says, “Drop Bush, not bombs,” and it’s all spray painted in blue.

My little brother went on a tagging spree when he was three. He painted “Brock” on my aunt’s trailer, my grandpa’s tractor wheel, and my mom’s front porch. You’d think those adults would have figured out how to keep a three year old out of the spray paint.

I have been laughing out loud over Carrisa’s blue van and Thom’s mullet and festive flannel.

And last week when we took the train to Chicago, I gawked out the window pretty much the whole time. If I wasn’t checking out the lovely trees and fields, I was making fun of the houses we passing by. I’ve never seen so many recliners and broken down vans in my life! Nick and I even saw a real-life “van down by the river” complete with a wooden porch and recliner.

So um, yes, this has nothing to do with graffiti, does it?

I am totally cracking up that you provided a link for Tupac. Are there really people out there who don’t know who he is? Well if so, they clearly aren’t livin’ the thug life like you and me.
