For the record, this is what $90 a night gets you in Washington, DC:
(note the ample room, two king sized beds, swanky furnishings, and a crib for the baby that you can’t even see because it has it’s own little alcove. Hotel Rouge, we love you.)
And this is what $170 a night gets you in New York City:
(note the see-through sheets, shared bathroom, missing crib and remote control that I’m positive was used in some weird sex act that involved someones a**hole and the bathroom towel. Amsterdam Inn, you are dead to me. And also, your website lies. You are no more a “boutique hotel” then I am Mrs. Rhett Miller. You can suck it.)

I thought shared bathrooms were only allowed in $5/night hostels!! And this is why I stay in the Mid-Atlantic, where everything is cheap as hell.

Thank god one of my best friends lives in NYC so I will definitely have a sanitary place to stay whenever I go out there. After seeing this, I don’t think I’d even consider a hotel, nor would I give my friend the option of not allowing me to crash on his couch.

$90 a night?! Where were those hotel rates when my mom came to visit me. But then again, you probably booked more than like 3 days in advance. Also, the Hotel Rouge is right next door to the building that houses the internship program I went through in D.C. It always gives me such a geeky thrill when I recognize stuff that comes up on peoples’ blogs

How did I not find that hotel when I slogged through what I thought was every single D.C. hotel web site back in March?!? I ended up paying $120/night for a Holiday freakin’ Inn Express in Fairfax. It was completely remodeled, but dangit! Your place looks much cooler and was actually in the city.

When I stayed in DC, I paid much more than that. It was like $200 something a night. But I was right on National Mall.
However, when I stay in NYC, I pay $53 per night AND I have my own bath, kitchen, and multiple rooms.
Course, I’m in Brooklyn.But my friend lives right across the street from that hotel, and she pays like $1500 a square foot. So that was a helluva deal, IMHO.

I know, I know. NYC hotels suck, big time. I just booked a hotel for my parents for Thanksgiving and we were thrilled to get a Holiday Inn for under $250. What a rip off!

It isn’t beautiful, but it is clean and you get your own bathroom. For about the same price, I recommend Hotel Pennsylvania, right across the street from Penn Station. That’s where my Mom and I always stay when we visit my sister.
