Harry is prefectly lovelyJuly 20th, 2007 @ 7:01 am
Guess what I’ll be tonight at midnight?
I’ll be dragging my butt out of bed, (maybe) brushing my teeth, probably not changing out of my pajamas, and walking across the street to check out all the Harry Potter hub-bub with some friends at the local bookstore.
While I’ve read all of the Harry Potter books, I would not say that I’m a huge fan. Yes, I enjoy the books. Yes, I’ve bought them on the day they came out. Yes, I’m excited to see how this one ends. (I have a very strong suspicion it will end in a way that will upset a lot of people.) But I’m not a die-hard fan.
In an e-mail to The King yesterday I told him of my Friday night plans. He only mad fun of me a little bit. Then he told me that he could get the ending of the book from some co-workers.
“Huh? The end? How do your coworkers know how it ends?”
“They found a website where someone took pictures of every page and posted them. They’ve been reading it that way all week.”
Okay, that’s just horrible. If I were J.K. Rowling I would be pissed at crap like that. I don’t know who I’m more mad at, the person who posted the pages or The King’s coworkers for participating it reading it.
Even though I swear I’m not a super duper huge fan, I did happen to make it to a (free) concert at the Seattle Public Library last week. Yes, we went and saw Harry and the Potters perform. Believe it or not, it was pretty fun. There were, surprisingly, normal people there. Lots of parents with their kids and even some cool-looking teenagers. There were all there to just have a good time.

The Seattle library is pretty freakin’ awesome. It was a good setting for this little show. It allowed The King and I to people-watch and it allowed Babboo to try to rip magazines while using his rattle to rock out to the music. (That’s right, Voldemort Can’t Stop the Rock!)
Seriously, the kid loves music.

Yeah I’ll buy the new book at the bookstore tonight at midnight. That’s the easy part. The hard part is trying to find time (and energy) to read all 2,765 (estimated) pages before the internet is covered in spoilers.
I kid you not, where do people find time to read so many books? I’ve practically given up TV and I still can’t find the time.
Maybe I should stop making dinner every night. That would save me about an hour.

And here is the part where I remind you that lots of fun and exciting things will be happening here at holaisabel.com next week.
The week of fun and goodness will start on Monday where I have the most awesome fun-filled “how-to” post planned with my best friend May. I assure you that you’ll love it.
And don’t worry, other super cool things will be happening later in the week while I’m off in Chicago living it up with (some of) my betches at BlogHer. I would never desert you, my lovely readers.
(Which means you can’t desert me either.)

Harry and the Potters! Isabel, I think we are band soulmates.
I plan on doing a complete media lockdown until I finish the book. It fits perfectly with my hermit tendencies AND prevents spoilers.
Babboo has a crib, right? Throw in there with some snacks and some tunes and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a Harry Potter marathon.

Ok, so I love Harry too. Will be reading all weekend, blah, blah, blah.
On to the real issue at hand…Isabel, you can’t stay up till midnight on a Friday! You will literally have to set an alarm and get out of bed? Oh my goodness! My suggestion is you be a rebel and stay up till go time!

I’m not in love with the series either, I just like it, and don’t want to damn ending ruined for me. I already told hollowsquirrel that I will be on contact/media lockdown until I get to read it. I don’t want it ruined.
As for finding time to read I also reccomend giving up sleep and breathing. That seems to have helped me. Being dead saves you all kinds of time, what with people not wanting to hang out with your rotting corpse.

I’m afraid to mention Harry on my site for fear that some a-hole will try to ruin the book for me. I’m seriously thinking of closing comments next week so nobody does a “drive by.”
Also, Luke and I are just getting one book for us, and he’s re-reading books six right now, so I’m going to grab it first. I hope to finish it before BlogHer, but dude, that’s a lot of reading.
Though I will be at home on Tuesday, waiting for our new sleeper sofa to arrive….

I’m totally one of those die~hard fans…. I really am, haha!
Shaun was talking about how he found out the ending last night on the internet and I was seriously threatening death if he said one word…. I am so scared to go anywhere on the internet. I haven’t been on MySpace and barely any blogs (besides yours of course!) because I’m terrified! I’m going to be locked in my room for the entire weekend reading this book so no one can ruin it for me.

I’m not a die-hard fan, either, but I will be devastated if someone ruins the ending for me. I won’t get my hands on a copy until my sister-in-law finishes hers, which hopefully will be sometime next week. So the question is this: do I trust people not to spoil it for me and keep my google reader “unread items” count under control, or do I just ignore the internet completely and deal with having to play catch-up on my blog reading for the next month? I still haven’t decided what it’s going to be.

So these books are really worth reading then? I really have no idea…
Can’t wait for the fun, exciting and super cool things next week!

I’m actually trying to wait until our Boogie is old enough to understand them before reading them myself so we can enjoy them together for the first time. He’s just 26-months-old. Now how do I avoid spoilers for that long?!
On a positive note, my husband was once voted “Professor Most Likely To Be Mistaken For A Harry Potter Character” (Hagrid) by the students in his department. So, I’m guessing if Harry is still popular with each new “generation” that Daddy will be very popular at birthday parties!
Hope you all enjoy your week with Harry!

I lost interest after the 4th book - and 2nd movie. I couldn’t even tell you what was going on in the storyline anymore!

I’ve never read the books but I’ve seen two (or three?) of the movies. Seriously, I can’t keep track of what’s going on either.
Have lots of fun (and drinks!) at BlogHer for those of us who can’t make it!

I finished the book last night at 1 am. I was satisfied. I’m not a crazy fan either (read: will never dress as a witch in public if it isn’t Halloween), but I do get caught up in the excitement when a new book is released!

I feel exactly the same about HP. Excited to read the book, did so every spare minute this weekend after Amazon delivered it Saturday afternoon, but I wasn’t counting down or anything. Now, I’m a little sad there won’t be any more books. And I had a dream last night that I had finished my 7 years at Hogwarts and had a wand now…it was extremely crooked…

I read the whole thing on Sunday. I’ve been discussing theories with other HP friends for the last two years. My theories were usually met with a blank stare and an, “I never thought of that.” As it turns out, ALL OF MY THEORIES WERE RIGHT ON! Oh yes they were. Brilliant. You’re all nuts if you think the ending won’t be leaked to you by the end of the week. BETTER READ FAST!
