A conversation that took place in our car on Sunday.
The King: Look at the underpass. It’s covered in bird poop.
Isabel: Why do you always point that out to me? I don’t want to see it. It’s gross.
The King: There is a ton of it. It’s like guano.
Isabel: What in the hell is guano? That isn’t even a word.
The King: It totally is. It’s bat poop.
Isabel: You just made that word up.
The King: No I didn’t. I know about because I’m an Eagle Scout. You’ve never heard of bat guano?
Isabel: Of course not. Because it isn’t even a real thing.
The King: You’re retarded.
Isabel: You are.

I know guano. But that’s mainly because we have large populations of bats here in Tejas. And also because I’ve taught it to 9-year-olds before. Kids will engage in any lesson that mentions poop.

I have definitely heard of guano… possibly from Ace Venutra, but I think I knew what it was before then. We have bats in NJ, so I’m sure it was part of some nature lesson. It was always a joke in our school, like “ew, put on some deoderant, you smell like guano!”. Mature stuff like that.

Um, yeah I’ve heard of it, unfortunately. I have older brothers and we lived in a bat-friendly area. When I was in 6th grade and started wearing mascara they tried to tell me that it was really just bat poop in a pretty tube; I decided that the purple mascara wasn’t made from bat poop (because, hello, it’s purple) so I wore that instead. Brothers are jerks, but I had GORGEOUS eyelashes that year!

Guano….I’ve heard of it. In the form of poop, as in bat poop and also the band called Guano Apes. Now I’m not sure WHY you’d want to name your band Poop Apes, but whatever. They rock.
