Who would be so proud?November 15th, 2006 @ 7:01 am
I did it. I am going to do it. As soon as I hit “publish” on this post?
Do what?
Join Frema’s Cheesy Love Song CD swap, of course. At first I thought I couldn’t do it. I mean, I don’t have blank CD’s sitting around, let alone time to burn them, package them up and then mail them out.
But after thinking about it more and getting more excited about it, I decided to just join in with the cool kids. I mean, everybody’s doing it.
(Yes, if everybody jumped off a cliff I would follow. But only if they were wearing really trendy boots and had good hair. And especially if they promised to be my friend after jumping off of said cliff.)
I set up my playlist yesterday at work. Get this; I don’t really own any cheesy love songs, only hot love songs that aren’t so much about love as they are about doing it. Or songs that just make you want to do it.
So while others are bragging about songs by Mariah Carey and movie soundtracks, my CD is going to have a lot of songs by the Old 97’s and Rhett Miller. Okay okay, there may be a few cheesy songs in there. I mean, you can’t make a mix CD without including at least one ABBA or Paul Simon song. Right?

Of course I reserve the right to make changes to this play list depending on what my mood is when it actually comes time to burn the CDs. (I have to find some blank CD’s also. Maybe I’ll find some in a coworker’s office.)
So tell me, what would be on your Cheesy Love Song CD?
(All this talk may convince you to join the swap.)

I’m not revealing my fantastic playlist until after the CDs are burned. I don’t want anyone copying my sure to be very mature and not at all tacky choices.
For anyone who submits a list to Isabel, you’re just the kind of person we’re looking for!

Oh, “Everything I do, I do it for you” by Bryan Adams. Nice, classic 90’s love song.

That’s quite the block of Old 97s. But I can’t say that I blame you

You didn’t include “Hover” or “Question” - heck Rhett even has a version of that in French!

I signed up! I can’t wait to go home and put the playlist together. This will be so fun. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get your name! If not, you can give me your addy anyways and I’ll send you one… I’m generous like that.

I’ve got nothing.
I’ve never been the cheesy love song kind of girl. The closest I ever came to having an “our song” with a b/f was “Brick House” by the Commodores. Classy.

Love Shack by the B-52’s. Does that qualify as a “love song” ? My favorite ven though I make up half the words or mumble them cuz I cannot freakin’ understand half of what they are shouting.

Yeahhhh!
My playlist is not complete yet, but there will definitely be some Lionel Richie “You are the sun, You are the rain” (and you make my life a foolish game!) on there.

Oh gosh, I don’t even know where to start. I was just like you. Not gonna do it b/c I knew I couldn’t follow through and also, um, how do you burn a CD. (I wonder if I can “find” any blank CD’s in my office..hmmmm.) But, then I went home and looked through my CD’s and I just have too many cheesy love songs to NOT do it. Now? I’m so pumped about it. I haven’t put my list together yet b/c it’s going to take a while to weed out only the ones good enough to make the list. I have a lot of the NOW (that’s what I call music) CD’s. I also have Journey, Mariah, Richard Marx, Tim McGraw, Britney, Madonna, and numerous other’s Greatest Hits Collection which makes for some good ones. Oh, and then there was the “Monster Madness” CD I found that has all 80’s big hair bad songs on it. I’m like a mad woman!
I also gave the lovely Mrs. Frema another idea for a CD swap that I would love for her to follow through on eventually. We’ll see.

[...] (What are the odd that an Old 97’s song came up after a Rhett Miller song? I didn’t plan this. I promise. So Rhett is the lead singer for the Old 97’s. The Old 97’s are my favorite, favorite band. I assure you that if you give them a chance, you’re gonna love them. And to those lucky people that are getting a copy of my Cheesy Love Songs CD there are many Old 97’s songs on it. They are neither cheesy or love songs. Mostly they are about sex. Rhett writes nice songs about sex.) Final Credits: The Denial Twist - The White Stripes [...]
