This morning I wore my winter coat for the first time this season. I was even able to button it up. Which is more than I could do last winter. You know, since I was hugely pregnant. I headed to work with a spring in my step.
I love my coat.
I was also enjoying walking to work in the daylight. Which is something I haven’t had the pleasure of doing for quite some time. Stupid winter months and getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. Hate, hate, hate.
I walked by Sephora and dreamed about spending millions of dollars there. Getting new lip gloss and eye shadow. Love, love, love.
Wait, what’s that sitting alone in front of Sephora? A suspicious looking suitcase? Quick, is there anyone standing around who it might belong to? There isn’t?
Crap, crap, crap. What do I do? Do I get a closer look? Do I forget about it? Do I call 911? I can’t forget about it. Yes, I should call 911. I would hate for something to happen and me to be to blame because I could have stopped it.
Wait, why is it taking 911 so long to answer? Don’t they care about this suspicious suitcase? I must keep walking to work. I don’t want to be near this think if it blows.
Isabel: Hello, hello 911? Yes, there is a suspicious suitcase here in front of Sephora.
Operator: What makes it suspicious?
Isabel: It’s just sitting here. All alone. There isn’t anybody near it.
Operator: Do you see any wires sticking out of it?
Isabel: I’m not near it any more. I walked away. And to be honest I didn’t get close enough to see if there were any wires!!
Operator: Did it have a distinct odor?
Isabel: I didn’t get smell anything. But again, I wasn’t the close to it.
Operator: Please stay on the line while I dispatch a Unit to go and check it out.
Isabel: (getting a little nervous) Okay.
(Transfers me to a Dispatch Operator.)
Dispatch Operator: Were there any wires sticking out of it?
Isabel: Not that I saw. I wasn’t close enough.
Dispatch Operator: This was in front of Sephora?
Isabel: Yes. Near their front door.
Dispatch Operator: Thank you. We’ll get a Unit on that.
What a way to start my day. I kept looking out the window at work and didn’t see anything. It’s been over an hour and still, nothing.
That’s a good sign.
Sephora is safe. Phew.

I agree-getting dark early sucks! i hate walking out of work and it being dark! This will be my first night picking Abbie up form school in the dark.

That happend to me once in a Gap Outlet. There was this bag just sitting there, and this lady walks up to me and is like, is that yours? I said no, and we looked at each other, our eyes growing HUGE… I walked away quickly and found a manager and told them. Thankfully, it belonged to the homeless man buying socks, but I was about to have a major panic attack since I was carrying Shepherd with me in his Bjorn…. So good for you for calling 911… you just never know with that stuff…

I loved the morning sun today too. It’s actually sunny and warm here for once, but this will probably be the last day of that for a while.
I hope you get to find out what was up with the suitcase. I wouldn’t have gone near it either.

Yipes. I hope it was just a briefcase of stolen Sephora goods that someone was in the process of taking home.. although in the same breath I don’t because a) stealing is baaaaad and b) think of all the goodies that would’ve been in there!

You are such a model citizen. I am so proud of you. I don’t think I would have called because I would have been nervous to talk to 911 people and then there would have been an explosion. People would die. I would be to blame.
I do think it’s funny everyone asked if wires were sticking out of it. Are there usually wires sticking out of suitcases with bombs?? Wouldn’t that make it too obvious?

Yes, yes, do show photographic evidence of The Coat. My winter coat is fine, except that there’s a big hole in the right pocket, and I don’t know how to sew. Blah.
Also, you are way smarter than me. If I saw a free Sephora bag, I’d just pick it up and march it inside. If nobody claimed it, it would become mine!

I, too, was hugely pregnant last winter and get to wear my favorite coat this year!!! I totally know what you mean. It is great to be thin(well, compared to last year) and wearing a nice coat.

When I came back from Spain I was hugely suspicious of any unattended box, bag, coat, toy, anything. Why weren’t people PANICKING like I was? Then, I got apathetic. Lulled into a false sense of security. Luckily, I have people like you to take care of me.
“Were there wires sticking out of it?” What a dumb question to ask. I’m pretty sure anyone capable of building a … killer suitcase of doom ….is capable of making sure there are no stray wires sticking out. Meh.

Wow. Now I can say that I (vaguely) know someone who saved Sephora from certain doom. I think instead of calling 911 though, I would have watched from a safe distance, just in case some of the bomb shrapnel included free lip gloss and other assorted makeup products.
