Bullets and bad parentingOctober 9th, 2006 @ 7:01 am
Welcome to the bullet edition for the week of October 9th. Sit down, have a cup of cocoa. Enjoy.
- Today is a Federal Holiday. The King and I don’t work for the Federal government. Apparently Babboo’s school observes Federal Holidays. Without reminding us. We didn’t know this until The King went to drop of Babboo at school this morning and the doors were locked. He had to go back home and call in “sick” to work. (I hope they have a good day together.)
- Dude, we are bad parents. We should know this type of stuff. Right?
- Kathleen e-mailed me this weekend to tell me she thought she saw me on the streets of Seattle on Friday. But was afraid to come up to me for fear of looking like a stalker. It was me, and I would not have thought she was a stalker at all. Next time you see me, TALK TO ME!
- My parents will be here in 2 days. I’m so excited I could pee.
- Babboo and I went grocery shopping on Saturday. It was note pretty. From now on I’m going to (happily) pay the delivery charge and order my groceries online.
- HollowSquirrel is back from her trip to Hawaii. Again, so excited I could pee. (Mrs. Squirrel, I got your post card in the mail. It will promptly be added to my post card collection. The collection I’ve had since I was about 10 years old.)
- My cousin had a baby last week. Is it horrible of me to regift the Winnie the Pooh pajama set that a nice old lady from Church gave Babboo? (Babboo isn’t into Winnie the Pooh. He’s more into Mr. T and Gun & Roses shirts.)
- Another cousin of mine got engaged last week. He’s 21 year old. Every time I think about how he’s too young to get married, I can’t breathe.
- It’s my sister and her husbands 4 year wedding anniversary tomorrow. She’s only 24. Again, thinking about it makes my heart stop.
- Being married is hard work.
- I really need to clean the bathroom before my parents arrive.
- I love Veronica Mars. If you aren’t watching this show, you suck. (Please watch it so it doesn’t get cancelled. Please!)
- Work is boring. I hope my project starts to pick up. Soon.
- I love my new cell phone. It is NOT flip phone. I have the flip phones. I can’t ever hear when I use one.
- Please make me feel better for not knowing Babboo’s school was closed today. Please.

Closed for Columbus Day? That’s ridiculous. You might want to go ahead and check to see if they plan to close next month for Veteran’s Day. Don’t feel bad–I would have done the same thing. Who would have thought?

They really should have had some sort of notice that they were closed for Columbus Day. Lots of places do not close (I’m also at work, for example). Even my yoga place puts up a sign on for any questionable holidays to let you know if they’ll be open or not. And that’s YOGA, not DAYCARE.
Totally their fault, and I’m not just saying that to make you feel better! I hope they have a nice day together.

It was pure luck that we figured out Noah’s school was OPEN today, but CLOSED on Friday, before Friday.
We were feeling all on top of things, and had even talked to 2 potential babysitters. For today. And I had convinced Jill that since I am horribly going out of town all the rest of this week, she should take today off instead of putting Noah with a sitter. I’m so mean.
But then I went to the school web site for some reason last week, and looked at the calendar again. Closed 10/6 for teacher training. 10/6. Friday. Not Monday. Not what we were planning. Oh shit.
Lucky for us, I was able to take the time off, and we figured it out Tuesday night, I think. I’m a little sleep-deprived, so it might be Weds that we figured out school was closed Friday instead of Monday.
Anyway, my rambling point here is that you sound like a perfectly normal family to me.

I keep forgetting about Columbus Day being a day off for some people/schools. Where I work we get the bare minimum of holidays off, so anything that’s not Christmas or Thanksgiving I pretty much forget about. So you’re definitely not the only one, and the school definitely should have sent home/called with reminders. You are DEFINITELY not bad parents — Baboo is so lucky to have you!
I got a lot of “you’re so young to be getting married!” since I was 22 when I tied the knot. But, when it’s right, it’s right. We knew very shortly after we met that we would be together forever, so we didn’t see much sense in waiting any longer than necessary to make it official. I know that every couple is different (way to state the obvious, Audrey), and what was right for us is definitely not right for everyone else. Best of luck to your cousin and his fiancee - I hope they are as happy together as you and the King clearly are. Out of curiosity, how old were you when you got married?

I didn’t even know it was a holiday today.
As a matter of fact, I just wrote a check to a utility and dated it for August 2004.
So…no worries.
Plus? Bonus Babboo/King Day!

Don’t hate me, but I have never watched Veronica Mars. I’m too busy with quality shows like Deal or No Deal. Which, by the way, is on three times a week!

OMG please run spellcheck next time before you post! HAHAHA, kidding. I love you! NO really I do! Don’t leave me!
Thanks for telling people about V.M. They really should be watching. Oh and please regift. I do. It’ll make me feel better about it if you do it too.
And you are not bad parents for not knowing school was closed. They could have at least sent out a reminder or something.

When I was in kindergarten they would print memos on colored paper and line us up and safety-pin them to our coats, so that we wouldn’t lose them on the way home; Yet still, 25% of kids were always unprepared for the slings and arrows of the Poudre R-1 School District.
I suggest putting two safety pins on sweet baboo’s coat, like name badges at a convention, so maybe they will GET THE HINT.

So I remember long time ago you told me you loved Logan, and really, I just didn’t quite see it. But this weekend, watching disc 4 of season 2, I finally *got* it! I now have a weird love for Logan too. He and that skinny blonde girl had some hot chemistry! (hannah?)
PS don’t feel bad about Babboo, he gets a whole day of father and son time. That is an awesome accidental outcome, don’t you think?

Don’t feel bad about not knowing Babboo’s school was closed! No other company, excluding the Post Office, is closed today! I think that’s just dumb. If a few companies are going to be closed today, they should all be closed today. But at least the King and Babboo get to have a day together.

This might make you feel better about the school thing: My mom is a great mom, but for the entire time I was in high school she didn’t know what time school started. Luckily I usually got a ride from a friend, but unluckily, whenever my mom drove me to school I was 15 minutes late. That and I had a boyfriend named Herb for almost a year and she always called him Buck. She, for some reason, thought that was his name, no matter how much I corrected her.

This will make you feel better, no doubt!
Last Friday, my kindergartner’s fall break started so she was going to be at daycare all day. So I dropped her off and came to work. About 10am, the school calls and tells me that I forgot to sign the permission slip for her to go on the field trip. I told them I didn’t know about it. The girl says “yeah, every time there’s a field trip you have to sign a permission slip”. Yeah, I am not retarded, I get that, I didn’t KNOW there was even a field trip. She was in utter shock, like, oh, my, gah, you didn’t know about your kid’s field trip!!
Did that help?

You are not a bad parent! They should have had reminders everwhere. They should have verbally reminded you the last time you picked him up. It is there fault! All their fault! I would never remember that Abbie’s school was closed if they didn’t remind or tell me. And thank goodness they were open today- and I work for a City that does not observe the holiday. Our school district isn;t even observing it.

Oh, now why WOULD you think it would be closed on Columbus Day? That’s just weird. I never would have thought, either!

I always forget about national holidays - especially if I don’t get the day off. This is far from bad parent material. If nothing else, at least Babboo’s too young to remember this goof

A) Columbus day isn’t a real holiday. He never even made it to the United States and the King never made it to work! (Also, you don’t take the list of school closings and put it on your family calendar? Shame on you!)(I had to dress my kid twice today becuase I forgot it was “red” day. So don’t feel bad.)
B) If you are bored at work, please send me your address pronto. I have plenty of tax returns I can send you. Hurry, fedex closes soon. What’s that you say? You aren’t an accountant? Anything you send back will be 1000% better than what my co-workers are handing in. And I’m to spaced out to even notice! Refunds for everyone!

Isabel, I am the TEACHER and I sometimes do not know these things. Never fear. The kiddies should come home the week before with post-it notes on their foreheads, reminding the parents. And their teachers. Cough.
I swear, everywhere I turn someone is getting engaged, married, anniversified or popping out babies. I’m feeling old damnit, and I’m all of 22. Insane.
Veronica Mars is fabulous!

ALOHA SweetCheeks! Thanks for the welcome home bullet point! Love it! I love being bulleted not in the “gun” kind of way. I missed you, too!!
I can’t believe your daycare was closed for a federal holiday. That’s b.s. You’re not bad parents for not knowing that oddity. Is it a fed/state run facility? Negatory, so they’re weird. Not you. I hope Babboo and the King had a blast together!!!!
As for the cousins & siblings being married so young– it gives me heart palpitations, too, and not the good kind. Good luck to all of them. And any commenters reading this– marriage is more difficult than I imagined, yet I’m thrilled to be married to Mr. Squirrel. Had I married my long time boyfriend at 21, even though I was madly in love with him and we are still friends, we both know it would have ended badly. I didn’t even know myself until late 20s…plus, how ever would I have slept with all those hotties? lol. Kidding. Bygones.
I’m going to set up Tivo for Veronica Mars asap. Don’t want to suffer the wrath of you, tis for sure.

My kids preschool was closed yesterday so I had to take the day off myself. Which, considering the amount of work on my desk, was NOT a good thing. I’m drowing here. Oh wait, this is not my blog. Enough about me.

You do realize that all of this postcard talk is going to make everyone want to send you one, right?
Don’t feel bad about not knowing school was closed. They really should have let you know.

On my 4th wedding anniversary I would be 24.
Yes, it kinda scares me sometime that I married at barely 20. Such a forward thinking woman that I am.
Michael and I have decided that we would discourage our children from marrying so young…..just so that their spouses don’t have to listen to the “I’m so young…I should be dating away…I should be going on holidays with my best friends…I wish my friends (who are all single) would invite me out more often….and not introduce me to every new person we met at Univ as ….this is Durga…she is married…blahhh blahhh “..
Don’t get me wrong. I love being married and feel lucky to be married to an awesome guy…but I can’t wait till all my friends are married too so we have more in common in that department.

[…] My cousin and his fiance girlfriend are in town this week. They originally planned this trip to come and see family for Thanksgiving and check out the plans for the small open house my aunt will be throwing them in Januaray after their December wedding (which is was scheduled to take place in a different state).
