Isabel: I just got an e-mail from my sister. She said she has some friends in Organ that want her and her husband to move there.
The King: (confused) Organ? Where is that? Utah?
Isabel: Um, I’m pretty sure she meant Oregon.
The King: Well, Organ is a real word. At least we know she knows how to use spell check.
Isabel: Screw spell check, I’m pretty sure that’s how she thinks Oregon is spelled.

My grandmother used to say “Intendo” for Nintendo, “robutt” for robot, and “threadmill” for treadmill.
I myself can’t decide how to pronounce “often” without looking like an @$$hole. Do you say the “t” or don’t you?!

My grandmother used to write checks to Public. It’s Publix. She also called Q-tips Q-ticks.

I wish I could properly spell the way my mom pronounces “root beer” but there are no letters to immitate it. She also says “grilla” instead of “gorilla” and she calls Cruela De Vil “Carella.”

My friend was at a hairdresser who asked her where she was from. She said “Ohio.” The hairdresser said, “well, here, we pronounce it Iowa.” Uh-huh.

My Grandpa taught me how to spell Mississippi:
M-I-crooked letter-crooked letter-I-crooked letter-crooked letter-I-hump back-hump back-I. I still have to say that every time I spell Mississippi.
I also have to sing a song to spell my state correctly:
T-E-double N-E-double S-double E….TENNESSEE!

My mom is from Long Island and therefore promounces words with her own added in r’s. Like idea is idear to my mom.
And I say ‘often’ both ways, depending on my mood.

My mother is from Illinois by way of Virginia. She does not to a wash. She does a “warsh.” It is not Washington DC, it is “Warshington DC.”
Me? I grew up outside of Bahsten, MA. Lived in Iowa where groceries are placed in a brown paper sack, and houses have “ruffs.” Now I live in BroookLYN and have family on Long-gah Island.
Some pretty sexy accents going on in these parts.
Also, I’m completely incapable of saying “synonym”–my mouth just doesn’t work that way. It always comes out as “cinnamon.”

At least she didn’t pronounce it “OR-E-GON.” ‘Cause if she said it that way, you KNOW she’s spell it that way.
