What is a “lapel” anyway?May 13th, 2006 @ 10:43 pm
Today is my birthday. And tomorrow is my first Mother’s Day. Which means this weekend is all about me.
My birthday has landed on Mother’s Day from time to time during my life. When this would happen I would totally feel horrible about having to share my birthday with all the Mom’s out there. (I don’t know how you Christmas babies do it.) At Church they would always hand out flowers to the Mom’s and I hated that I wouldn’t get one too. It never dawned on me that maybe, just maybe, the world didn’t revolve around my 9 year old self and maybe, just maybe, the congregation didn’t even know it was my birthday or even care that it was.
This year, I almost forget that it was even my birthday. I woke up on Friday thinking that it was my birthday. It was a good 15 minutes before I realized it wasn’t for another day. Doh. I guess having another person to take care of makes you sort of forget about yourself. I think this is a good thing.
My parents sent me a little package for my birthday. One of the presents in the package was a chain and pendant of a little boy with a baseball cap on wearing a t-shirt that reads “I Love Mom”. It’s cheesy. Oh man, how it reeks of cheese. It’s gold and silver and just wrong on all fashion levels.
Which means I quickly put a better chain on it and wore it. All day. I may have even shown it off (proudly) to my Mother in Law. I’m pretty sure I’ll wear it tomorrow. Along with the lapel pin they also gave me, which reads “#1 Mom”.
No joke people.
(I don’t need to remind you of what my Mom got The King for his birthday, do I?)
I’m pretty sure I’ve never owned a lapel pin. Heck, I’m not sure that I even own a lapel. But I can tell you I’ll be wearing my “#1 Mom” lapel pin for all the World to see tomorrow. (And by “World”, I just mean the congregation at Church.) As far as The Baby is concerned, I am his #1 Mom. And I hope I stay that way.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the women and men who makes this world go round.

This is my first post on our brand new high speed internet. Which means one thing….MORE PICTURES OF THE CUTEST KID IN THE WORLD. (No, not Noah…)
So, I promise next week, we’ll have more pictures of The Baby. (Is that shouts of joy I hear from the Internet?)

Happy Birthday and Happy Mother’s Day!
My 19 year old’s birthday is on the 10th and he was born on Mother’s Day, which I loved. So every year that the two coincided, we made it OUR day. This year, he’s living away from home, 2000 miles away and boy, do I miss him.
Ok, enough whining from me. Have a great weekend and smell the baby’s head for me. My three year old’s head has officially stopped smelling like ‘baby’ and has started smelling like ‘little boy’, which is not nearly as nice a smell.

Happy Birthday! My boyfriends birthday is today (Mother’s Day). Why am I on the internet you ask? Because we’re taking a little break in the middle of our eventful day to rest. I don’t feel so well.
Hope you have a good Mother’s Day!

I know, I haven’t figured out what to call my baby, so just have been calling her Baby Girl. You know, because my blog is called Girl from Florida, and she’s my baby. Yep.
Happy Mother’s Day!! I hope you enjoyed your lovely new accessories and the church congregation definitely complimented them all morning

Happy Birthday to you!!
I heart Germany, too! My husband’s family are noted for the gigantic “German noses” and everytime someone sees my last name, they say, “Did you know that your last name means ’smart’ in German?” And I say, “Really? That’s neat!” and then I roll my eyes as I walk away.

Happy birthday and Mother’s Day. Sounds like you had quite a weekend. As for the baby’s middle name, I too have a friend from Germany named Florian, and I’ve always loved that name!

Happy Birthday & Mothers day. I don’t know exactly how I found your blog - I think somehow linked through Mama C-Ta’s site..Anyway, Hope you had a great day. I used to live in Seattle (for 2 years) so enjoy reading your blog about Seattle. I miss it - such a beautiful city & so much to do.
Also, I loved your post - and your Mothers Day Accessories - I can relate. My 2 1/2 year old gave me a Dora card. Inside was a BIG sticker “Worlds Greatest mommy” I wore it ALL Day. My husband said “you really don’t have to wear that” but I knew inside that I needed to…
Hope you dont mind me stopping by.

It’s funny how that cheesy jewelry suddenly becomes like a badge of honor as long as it says “Mom”.

I am so dense I didn’t even know you had put hints in that last entry. (I LIKE Florian as a middle name. Course my child’s middle name is Albin! After my paternal grandpa.)
Happy Birthday Lady! And I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Yeah, smell the baby’s head for me too. Because Like Contrary said, they eventually stop smelling like “baby” and start smelling like “little boy.” Little boy smell is alot like “wet puppy” smell. Really!

We share a birthday!! So, happy (belated) shared birthday to a fellow Seattle-ite!
Thanks for your comment on my blog…I know you’ve commented before; I had your blog bookmarked on my old computer but we got a new one a few months ago and I didn’t have the bookmark on here.
So now you can consider yourself bookmarked!
