And thus goes the job huntFebruary 24th, 2006 @ 8:00 am
I’ve been lucky in my “work life”. I’ve have three, what I would consider, long-term jobs. One at a gas station/convenient store back when I was younger (which was a great place to meet guys, in case been lucky enough to get every job that I’ve ever applied for or wanted.
That being said, The King hasn’t been so lucky. He’s had quite a few jobs and he always starts off really liking them. But after a few years of being dicked around he gets dishearten and starts to look for a new job. This is usually a long process for him. He sends off about a million resumes and will maybe get called in for an interview from two of them. Eventually he always gets a new job with a better company and a little more money.
Currently he’s sick of his job and ready to move on to something new.
Thus begins another intense job hunt. He is faithful in keeping his resume in ship-shape condition. He knows all the websites to check for new jobs and looks at them every night. He’s a pro at writing cover letters. He gets excited about specific jobs and waits patiently for them to call.
This time? The jobs are actually calling him back. As in every job he’s applied for has called him. He’s had three interviews in the last three weeks. He’s pretty confident that one of them is very close to giving him an offer (one that he won’t take, because it’s a substantial cut in pay and a commute).
The thing about The King is that he’s amazing to talk to. His social skills are like no other. He’s charming and funny and very handsome (and also has many suits that make him look even hotter). Not to mention he has the best.stories.ever. (His arsenal of stories would take up quite a few posts. I mean, do you know anyone who has stories about visiting a nudist resort, traveling around Europe selling Levi’s, or being given rat poisoning by a Nazi in Germany? Because he done all of that and more!)
Since he’s so good at his conversation skills, if he can just get in for an interview, it usually means they will like him enough to at least have him come in for a second interview. Which may even lead to a job offer. And more money. Money that I’m pretty sure we’ll need once this baby comes. I hear they cost a lot, no?
The King’s to a point in his career where he has that thing called “experience” that everyone seems to want. And are even willing to pay extra for. He is feeling really good lately because he’s getting called back. He has a renewed faith in himself. He’s excited in just thinking that he has options now. I love to see him like this. It makes me happy to be reminded that I married a really smart, talented and motivated guy. (I’ve told you how he designed and built our last house from scratch and is doing it all over again on our new house?!)
Last night while he was online looking for even more jobs to apply for, he found two new ones that he is perfect for. And the commute? He could walk to work. We can see one of the offices from our bedroom window. That means he wouldn’t have to spend as much time on the bus commuting (even though his current job is only 3 miles away from where we live). More time at home with me and the boy. Hooray.
This is where you, dear Internet, come into play. We need your good Karma. He’s not asking for the jobs to be handed to him on a plate. He just needs an interview. If he can just get that, he’s confident he can persuade them that this job was meant for him.
And in his own words, “I’m not above begging!”

sounds like he might not even need our karma, but I’ll send it anyway. I’m trying to think of the last good deed I did so that I can transfer the benefits all the way to Seattle…
and can I assume that he didn’t actually eat the rat poison given to him? yikes!

Oh, I’m so tempted to e-mail this blog post to Luke! He’s been down and out about mailing tons of resumes and only getting one or two bites. It’s nice to see that eventually there comes a point where skills and experience brand you as “desirable” rather than “overqualified.”
Best of luck to him!
