Let the 4 day weekend beginDecember 22nd, 2005 @ 10:23 am
Hi. Remember me? Yeah, I’ve been so busy with work this week. I love to be busy, but it really does cut down on my “personal internet time”. Since The King and I only have dial up at home, we rarely even bother with the world wide web once we leave work.
Here are a few things I wanted to mention in today’s post:
The King and I finished up our Christmas shopping last night. (I am not sure he finished up his shopping for me.) We are done with all family members. After much thought (and advice from you, thank you very much), we settled on snorkeling gear for the brother in law (hey, it’s what he asked for. Twice). Believe it or not, snorkeling gear is hard to find in the dead of Winter. Apparently it’s not the right season. We found a very lovely little purse for The King’s little sister (the one who just had the twins). I wanted to get her something that was all about her. She has proven that she won’t use gift certificates (even though we keep giving them to her). I know that us ladies are particular about our purses. I figure if she doesn’t like this one, she can take it back and choose one she does like. I was adamant that she had something to open on Christmas, even if she would take it back.
I ended up with some good stuff for The King. Of course I can’t tell you what they are, because rumor has it that he reads my blog (although I did find out that he doesn’t read it very regularly). I had a hard time sleeping last night because I was so excited about the goods I got him.
The package I sent to my family arrived yesterday. Plenty of time to spare. Phew. (I guess paying extra for “second day air” was a good choice). My Mom will distribute the presents for the siblings, as well as the scarf I crocheted for my friend (the one who went to Europe with us and said she didn’t use scarves-but I plan to change that).
What did I end up getting for my folks, you may ask? I was able to find a very cheesy license plate cover that says, “My grandkids are cuter than yours”, since my folks became Grandparents this year (one was also bought for The Kings parents). I also gave my Mom some Christmas ornaments (she collects “bell” ornaments, so I got her some in Germany). Desperate at the end to find something else for them, I framed a really horrible picture of The King and I that was taken recently at a Church function. We hate the picture, but it’s the kind of thing that parents will love. Suckers.
The package from my Mom arrived here. All presents are accounted for and under the tree. No presents for the baby.
I have tomorrow off, The King does not. I am going to drive the 40 minutes to my Aunts house and make my Mom’s famous cinnamon rolls with her. I don’t get to see my Aunt (and her family) very often. So this should be nice. Plus, they haven’t seen me since I got knocked up.
The King and I continue to look for a daycare center that 1) we can afford and 2) that we feel comfortable taking our baby to. I am not sure what daycare costs around the world, but here in Seattle it’s about $250-$350 a week. That seems like a lot to me. (but still not too much that it’s cheaper for me to stay at home).
I had my review at work last week. It went really well. Really well. So well that they gave me a raise without me even asking for it. I am officially making three times what I was making before I moved to Seattle. I like that (and so does The King and the new baby).
And let’s not forget that The King and I are going out with our best friends tonight. Without their kid. This is the very first time this has happened since their kid was born over a year ago. We are going out to a real dinner downtown and then maybe walk around and check out the lights. Am so looking forward to this. I may even try to dress up a little.I only have 6 more hours of work and then I’m off until next Tuesday. I love working in construction during the Holidays. The entire month of December feels like one big joke. It’s very relaxed (except for this year, because hello, I am so busy).
Here’s wishing everyone a Very Happy Holiday Season. Be safe and eat lots of junk.
