Baby BoysNovember 21st, 2005 @ 10:37 am
I had heard from friends that there just weren’t any cute boy clothes out there. The King and I refused to believe it, as we set out last weekend to find the perfect outfit to celebrate our little guy. Want to know what we bought?
Nothing.
That’s right, nothing. We looked and looked and looked and didn’t find one single thing to buy for our guy. The stuff that is out there right now for newborns has penguins and Christmas trees on them. That really isn’t appropriate for a baby born in April.

As I am from a very small town where my folks own horses, chicken, dogs, cats, turkeys and have even been known to have a pig around, I have always loved little boys dressed as cowboys. I don’t really like big boys dressed as cowboys (except, of course my Dad). When I saw this collection I about died from all the giddiness. I mean, look at those little cowboy boots. And the outfit with the cowboy on his horse. I can’t stand it.
I looked at The King with the biggest eyes and begged for the cowboy boots. He said something like “no boy of mine…”. Understood.
I called my Mom this morning to tell her that we’re having a boy. Then I moved the conversation towards the cowboy boots and how we didn’t get them. She said “you’ll have to send me a link and maybe you’re Dad and I will get them!”
Perfect. Because they are so cute. Right??
*and they are on sale online, but they weren’t at the store.

Yes, ADORABLE. Nursery theme?? Not sure if you can do that in the apartment. I have always thought that there wasn’t as much “cute” things for baby boys as girls, but at this point I am thankful, because all of that pink would be more than I could handle.

We didn’t know if we were having a boy or girl when I was pregnant (either time), so I got a lot of unisex outfits. One of my favorites was a pair of light blue corderoy overalls with a matching t-shirt that had little horses all over it. It was really a little boy’s outfit from Little Me, but worked for either sex (as it turns out, we had 2 girls.) I just gave it to a friend of mine for her new baby boy.
Janie and Jack (www.janieandjack.com) has very cute stuff — a little pricey, but good sales.

Did you try Gap? Everytime I go into gap kids, I see the cutest freaking things.

Those are so cute! And they look comfy too.
I will be thinking of you on Thanksgiving… Wish I could be in Germany. That will be so much fun.

Ooo, if you like cowboy stuff, check out this site (my sister knows the owner/creator). I don’t think you can purchase online, but I’m not sure. They have cute western shirts for kids:

I am a SUCKA for Gymboree. You know it’s bad when they greet you by name and know the size your child wears.
Also,Hanna Andersson was all that I dressed Em in for the first 18 months. So CUTE and durable as all get out.
My girlfriend once went to order an outfit for Em and the saleswoman called into the main store who gave her Emily’s sizes. SAD.
I love baby clothes.

Oh! That’s a good plan. Hubby can’t object to a gift from grandparents!
Little boy clothes are severly lacking but the almost make up for it with nursery bedding. The girl clothe are adorable, but all the girl bedding is sappy and pink. At least the boy bedding is fun and brightly colored!

It seems really hit-or-miss with the season. We have boy-girl twins. In the 6–12 month size, Girl Twin’s drawer was overflowing. Yet there has been a marked drought in the 12–18 month size. Hence why she is wearing the same purple, green, and pink shirt on a rotating basis. While her brother is living it up in a new outfit daily.

Oilily is the greatest label for kids ever. followed by Kenzo, Gap & Gymboree..oh there’s heaps more BUT a brand that is fabulous for boys is the Australian designer FRED BARE (you could find tons of it on ebay if it’s not stocked in the US) and the New Zealand label Little Pumpkins (ditto look on ebay if not in the shops). Oilily is great fro boys too. And Paul Smith kids line is amazing. LOve it!! My daughter lives in Oilily most days though…

I saw your comment on a friends blog and clicked on your link. I’m from the country myself, way down in southeast Texas. Little decorating tip, no wallpaper, no paint, nothing that can hurt you while you are pregnant. Go to a store that sells material and find a medium weight cloth in a design that you like. Soak the cloth in Sta-Flo liquid starch and stick it on the wall. It appears to be wall paper, but all you have to do to get it down is lightly spritz with a spray bottle of water, let it sit for about 5 minutes and pull it off the wall. No harm done to the wall or the paint.
