Free music TuesdayOctober 25th, 2005 @ 8:28 am

Actually, everyday if “free music” day for The King and I.
Now before I get into this too much I have to say that I am not sure if this is legal or not. We asked and were given an answer that sounded good. But not sure if it was the legal response. I am sure the Internet will know the answer (and tell me either way).
The King has an iPod. He’s had it for years. In fact, he may be on his third one. (You know, those batteries don’t really last very long-so you should get the extended warranty). The King takes it to work with him and listens to it all day. He listens to it while he rides his bike to work. He listens to it on the plane. He loves it. But more than the actual love for the Pod, he loves getting music for it. It’s like a game to him.
We started checking out CD’s from the library a year or so ago. We pick them up and download them to the Pod and return them. (Again, we asked at the library and they said we could do this. I *guess* that means it’s okay.) We know we aren’t the only ones doing this because sometimes we have to wait about 6 months to get a certain CD. The library has this great system where you put a CD on hold via their website. When it comes it, they e-mail you and hold it for you until you can get to the library and check it out. You don’t even have to ever talk to a person. It is all self-service.
The best part is seeing which CD’s are the most popular. For instance, the new Ben Lee CD was very popular as was “Country Grammar”. In fact, I think Nelly was the longest wait we had.
We went to the library last night to pick up our latest batch of CD’s. 7 total, so it was a good score. The King started to download all of them last night and when he came to the Nelly CD, he said “I don’t think I want this one.”. Aw, the irony.
So if you aren’t already, head to your local library and get some music to enjoy. It’s free and it’s easy. Plus, that’s what library’s are for. Right?

Yeah, I listened to the city libraries’s entire (almsot) collection of books on tape and CD. It was fantastic. But now I’ve run out of books had had to switch to a paid service. Too bad they won’t do interlibrary loans and get books on tape from other libraries.

Oh ny god, we totally do this too! We must have gotten over $500 of free music so far. We are extra lucky because our city has the best library system in the country and the A/V section is awesome!
The first time we went, we were looking at cds and I said Oh here’s one I want for my ipod and my husband shushed me like we were going to get busted or something, but I think it’s perfectly legal.

[…] I asked The King for suggestions and he said I should get a Jurassic 5 song. I already have too much Jurassic 5 on my laptop. I don’t need one more song. Plus, I’m sure The King’s got more of their cd’s on our “holds” list at the library. Yep, I’m steering away from any rap. […]

[…] The King and I like to check out music from the library. We’ve been doing it for years. It’s a really good way to listen to things that you might not usually try out. Because we aren’t the only ones that do this, we usually have to wait on a waiting list for the CD’s. Sometimes for a pretty long time. I think I waited over a year for the new Ben Lee CD last year.
